Considering the 400 mile round journey it was a fantastic following from Vale. 

And if anyone recalls seeing Rab C Nesbitt in a Vale scarf, guess which OVF user it was ?

We’d like to dedicate this game to the memory of Mike (Old Sage) Lakin who sadly passed away recently. A respected and much loved member of the OVF community and a passionate Port Vale fan who did a tremendous amount to save the football club, he will be dearly missed by all of us.

I was working for Royal mail at the time .

Took a week off on the sick to go to Cardiff in the midweek and Brighton on the Saturday. David Lowe masterclass at Cardiff .

Funny how times change. That season in our league Stockport & York played in the play offs and Fulham were relegated to the bottom tier.

Fair play to the home side here, with nothing to play for they are giving it a good go.

Their new ground is really very imposing and modern - on the outskirts of Brighton,  by the side of the main road. The Amex Stadium or something like it but it is hugely impressive.

Super day out was that.

As ever when you watch these Rudge teams play you realise what calm footballers they were - composed on the ball, tried to play the right way, and some really good players at that level.

I grew fond of that yellow strip.

Great day that was! It was my birthday and we went as a family - me, the missus and the two kids. Remember thinking when they equalised we might have a problem but we were just too good for them with quality all over the pitch. Foyley MOM for me, when that second goal went in right in front of the away end, it just erupted. Brilliant pitch invasion too - the kids still remember it!
