I've just been doing some final checks and I am sure some of you will be delighted that tonight's game has some vintage 1995 adverts during  the half-time break...

It's good that your showing a match that people probably wont have seen any form of highlights since the match was played in 1995.

This was Vale's first game of 1995 for one reason or another and they went into it badly needing a win. Like a lot of newly promoted sides, the decent early season form had began to peter out, despite good wins over Southend (5-0) and Millwall (Steve Guppy's debut). Vale had lost 4 out of 5 at the end of the year, including a shambolic refereeing performance at home to Reading (Yes I'm talking about you Mr Terry Heilbron of Newton Aycliffe) and a last minute sickener at Watford on New Year's Eve.

The Potteries Derby which should have taken place on the 3rd of January was frozen off (resulting in a reactionary Jason Dean Radio Stoke phone in about why we didn't have undersoil heating) and we had a free weekend on FA Cup 3rd round day because we'd been forced to play in the first round to make the numbers add up; we lost at Scarborough.

Anyway, the two week break allowed Rudge to get a few players back fit and do some work with them on the training ground.

It's very much one of those "hidden gem" games - the whole Vale team are playing really well - for me Walker is just oozing class in midfield.

Foyle was underrated and just as nice a fella off the pitch as on it.
