I've tweaked the topic heading. It was originally about Colchester and Cambridge but I think this thread is fine to discuss all the other retained lists as they come out...

I've collated a Google Sheet which ranks all the released senior players from League 2 so far. It has each broad position and then a ranking of Great, Good, Average, Poor, and Farmer. The rankings are based on their viability as a contributor in League 2, not previous talent, so age is a contributing factor.

The formatting is rubbish as I have no idea how to work a spreadsheet, but if you click on each box you will be able to read all the names for that section in the bar at the top.

I've covered Salford, Colchester, Cambridge, Carlisle, and Mansfield so far. Let me know if I miss any.

The rankings are my own, often ill-informed opinion. They are formed from seeing the players live, views from people who know more than me, and fans' views. I try and avoid 'I recognise that name!' syndrome, which plagues the lower leagues.

I'm collecting it more for my own interest than any other; interested to see the make-up of the released list this summer. As we can see, we already, 5 retained lists in, (6 including us) have a number of very decent/good players who would start for most teams in this division.

Some decent players in there. An updated list of players who have been released who I deem OK, some are good:

GK - Chris Neal, Bobby Olejnik, Kyle Letheren

FB - Scott Wiseman, Ryan Jackson, Dan Jones (obviously won't come here)

CB - Krystian Pearce, George Taft, Nathaniel Knight-Percival, Nathan Pond, Luke Prosser, Will Boyle

CM - Alex MacDonald, Michael O'Connor, Paul Lewis, Kelvin Etuhu, Mike Jones, Brandon Comley

W/AM - Otis Khan, Harry McKirdy, Stefan Scougall, Craig Conway, Alex Addai, Chris Clements

S - Frank Nouble, Craig Davies, Luke Varney

 

Also important to keep an eye on players who are out of contract, who have been offered new terms:

Nicky Maynard, Harrison Dunk, Greg Taylor, Joe Riley, Gethin Jones, Jack Bridge, and Lewis Alessandra are the picks there.

Elliot Whitehouse and Jake Hessenthaler released by the Mariners. Fans are gutted about the latter. Big earner. Former is a tidy midfielder for League 2.

Joe's brother Harry Davis also released - steady CB for this level.

Bradley Garmston is a rapid left back - failed to play more than 1400 league minutes for 3 years, but I would guess could be alright in League 2.

Jordan Cook - attacking midfielder, been around a bit, 'do a job' sort of lad.

These are the players I have unde OK and Good. Rest aren't worth bothering with. Hessenthaler the best.

Only really Hessenthaler would make you go wow. I suspect the rest would have been let go regardless.
