Quiz: the near impossible Iron Curtain quiz

Recommended Posts

If you've missed it, today's front page quiz is the near impossible task of naming all the players to feature in the 1953-54 season.

There's 19 in total and while the regular starting eleven should be do-able, I reckon getting the names of the occasional starters is very, very tough...

My dad was a close friend of Albert Leake and worked with him after he packed in playing.

He showed me his scrapbook and Championship medal that I thought was amazing when I was but a young lad.

I know the first XI off by heart but the other squad members - bar the one who stepped in for the semi-final - are largely unknown.

Most of the players played virtually every Saturday didn't they? It was a very settled team.

That's good work all. After posting a fair number of articles on here about them I can name the usual XI who started almost all the games but after that it becomes very tricky. Well done if you got a decent score on this quiz!

Got 7. Pretty sure Albert Leake was truant officer when I was at Thistley Hough high school late 70's.

He was, indeed, a school welfare officer, working from Unity House.

A lovely bloke, generous with his time and always had nice things to say to you.

It's funny how you put these fine players on a pedestal and look up to them in awe but when you meet them they are just like you or me.
