German politicians are talking about making the players wear masks which would need replacing every 15 minutes!

Physical contact and goal celebrations would be banned and a goverment draft said "If masks slip, the game must stopped immediately"!

Sounds like a non-starter to me?

Stuff like this is like the ban of handshakes at the start of the social distancing in the UK. That didn't make the game "safe" and nor can mask wearing. Football is inherently a sweaty contact sport. Especially at corners, throw ins and free kicks. It should be played as normal or not at all. Above post might need to be withdrawn!

Actually I have had a vision; VAR reviews of mask pull downs; violent conduct? Preventing counter attack and goal scoring opportunity? Should the offending player be arrested by the Police for attempted assault? And so on!

It could make interesting viewing......

Everyone wearing gowns, gloves, masks and shields..... 2 meters apart at all times, temperature check as soon as you release the ball, sterilize the ball after every contact, new whistle after every blow..... like watching paint dry.... or BBC's big night in..... or consecutive episodes of BGT/AGT/voice/I'm nearly a celebrity let me in.

We're closing in on four times Germany's body count now and they have 16 million more people than we do. Yeah, I think the Germans know what they're doing in terms of keeping the virus under control.

Not really all they've done is kept people from gaining any kind of immunity to the virus. Once people start interacting again and moving from place to place the virus will also and the deaths will still happen eventually. In a Democracy based country you can't keep people away from each other for 18 months. The virus doesn't care what you do, until there is a vaccine. The virus will find a way and the deaths will still happen.

In a years time most counries will have roughly the same death percentage.

Either way they should be starting to play league football again

Two players and a staff member, each of them asymptomatic. I wonder if that means they are testing all the players already or if they just came into contact with someone who had tested positive.

  • 2 weeks later...

With restarting so early they have plenty of time to play the club's postponed fixture/s. I do wonder what will happen with a similar scenario in English football when we're kicking off four weeks after Germany.

Here's how things stand in Europe:

England - first tier highly likely mid-June, second tier possible, 3/4 tier unlikely, 5/6 tier ended (promotion and relegation pending), 7 null and void
Scotland - first tier arguing (complete shambles), below ended (promotion and relegation confirmed, no play-offs)
Italy - June 13/20 likely
Spain - mid June likely
France - ended (promotion and relegation confirmed)
Netherlands - null and void
Germany - top two tiers restart 15 May
Belgium - Jumped straight into ending season but haven't confirmed it yet, still debating
Portugal - first tier restarts 4 June, below ended (promotion and relegation confirmed)
Denmark - returns 28 May
