All would have been avoided if they restarted the league in September with a shorter season next season.

Couldn't do it.

Prem clubs would have lost (even more) TV broadcast money, which in turn reduces solidarity payments, signing the death warrant of myriad League 2 clubs.

Furthermore, poor clubs are forced to release all of their own players, not through ineptitude, but through an unavoidable global pandemic, and are then forced to finish the with vastly depleted squads in comparison to what they had started the season with. This isn't comparable to a mid-season transfer window, as very few regular starters will be out of contract in January.

There simply isn't a solution which is fair to everyone. Somebody gets shafted in every scenario. Postponing the season then resuming causes more financial problems than solutions (what happens if a second wave prevents the restart in September? What happens to existing contracts? What happens when the furlough scheme ceases?), and will negatively impact future seasons.

People still saying that the season should have been finished in September. It was an option until last week until it came apparent that the costs were to high for most league 2 teams to do that. Why still say it should have happened when last weeks vote showed it was a none starter in the first place. ?

whilst I sympathise with Tranmere - and nobody could have foreseen this coming - their transfer strategy has come back to bite them in the arse

they go cheap in the summer then supplement if needed in January - have done this 3 years on the trot

and it was working too. Won their last 3 before the lockdown. Won't get a chance to see if they could win any more. But you can argue on whats been played so far they are the 3rd worst team.

They've had advantages at times too - they played Boltons kids, not every team had that luxury. I've seen their fans argue their FA Cup run has left them being short on games, and so less chance to garner points, the teams above them on PPG have played more games. But then you can argue the cup money has bought them the players that have won them their last 3 matches. It's a shitter for them but someone had to dip out. Hopefully they can take something from Carol in terms of how to take bad news with a bit of grace

You may well be right, but I would make the point that Wimbledon are hardly neutral or fair in this.  They like Hull in the Championship, are desperate for the season to be cancelled to avoid a possible relegation.  Lose that match to a revitalised Tranmere and they may well go down.  they have been very vocal on this , this could just be another attempt to influence other clubs.

Hull are in a relegation battle,Wrex. It could cost them if they are players. Its where the line is drawn that may concern clubs.

What line? Have clubs never had two players out injured for 14 days at the same time before?

Like I’ve said before if one team had ,say, 5 players out,due to the virus, would they be expected to put out a team?
