With no vaccine or specific drugs available at the moment the only way to combat the disease if to slow the spread, sadly it's the right decision. Was looking forward to watching The Players Championship Golf this afternoon on tv, sadly it's been canceled.

The Masters cancelled as well.

Saw something interesting earlier about if this drags on too long, results from the reverse fixtures could be duplicated and enforced for the last few games of the season.

That would be 6 wins and 2 draws and have us on 74.

I saw somethng about this earlier on and we'd still finish 8th on 74 points and miss out on goal difference..

Crap decision, and massive over reaction.
I'm gutted.

Yup, massive over reaction by the EFL. The Horse Racing authorities allowed over 68,000 fans to attend Cheltenham today (Friday) and the Midlands Grand National at Uttoxeter is still on tomorrow but we aren't allowed 5,000 or so at Vale Park!

That would be very disappointing, but if the games hadn’t been suspended, and we were to carry on as normal, I don’t think we could do a lot more than 6 wins and 2 draws from 9 games.

Tell that to people with COPD or are under going cancer treatment, selfish attitudes are not helpful at this difficult time.

People with COPD or are undergoing cancer treatment would be silly to attend any event where a large gathering of people would be expected.

People who do attend though could contract and inadvertently pass it to those groups, but hey ho who cares........................

But what then happens, if say I go the game and I'm infected but not aware I've got it. I then pass it onto someone else and again that person is unaware. That person then goes and visits say his parents who have medical issues.

The Goverment have already said upto 10thousand people in the UK may be infected.

The WHO have also said it can be passed onto to people without knowing you have got it.

Do you really want a death on your hands over a game of Football.

There is no way they'd scrap this season and void the results. It is a very brave man who'd make that call and, for example, take away Liverpools imminent winning of the league. There'd be fcūking murder. The bookies would have to return many, many millions of pounds of stakes they may not actually have as liquid cash. There'd be legal battles over final placings because they affect competition qualification and prize money. There's too much money in the game especially in the greed league ® to allow that disruption to happen.

What seems most sensible to me is ride this out, start playing again once well over the peak, possibly initially behind closed doors, finish the season in the late summer. Postpone the Euros till next year. Have a shorter but still reasonable pre-season and then kick off again in late September/October/November depending on how bad this initial delay was. Finish EFL 2020/2021 in June/July, no winter break in the greed league ® so they finish well before and are rested for the delayed Euros. Repeat, finishing 21/22 in May. Stagger it back to normal slowly over time.

Yep. Absolutely is the most likely scenario. The TV companies paid hundreds of millions for this season and aren't going to hand over their money if one third of it goes unfulfilled.

Money is the answer to every question in football. Even taking that out of consideration, it would not be right to have Liverpool 25 points clear at the top, Leeds and West Brom at the top of the Championship all season long, and Stevenage 8 points adrift at the bottom, then with a handful of games left we say "okay let's pretend that all never happened and start again in August".

People complain that VAR takes the joy out of celebrating goals to know there is the possibility of it being ruled out. Imagine that feeling all season long with the knowledge that come Match 2021 if the virus came back then the competition could be scrapped again and we go back to August 2019 again.

So that just won't happen. It will be a massive ball ache reconfiguring the next season to accommodate the end of this one, but it has to be done. The less likely alternative is that they end the season and start handing out titles, promotions and relegations based on current standings. Which would save the hassle of reorganizing things but I can't see that happening, especially as how do you settle cup competitions and play-offs?
