"you can't trust the figures!" *unless they support my argument then they are solid haha

Wow, it's the gaslighting that is the worst part for me.

You need to stop misrepresenting peoples views. I know it's your go to tactic, to imagine an argument and then project it on to you people you feel you disagree with, but it's getting a bit daft now.

When people are asking you for context on the 80k or 90k positive tests and you just go "oh don't believe the numbers"....it's your post that is quite silly.

-how many tests were done

-how many are actually ill

-how many are vulnerable to serious illness

-what is the rate of false positives

Can you at least name them? I'd rather not sit through 40 minutes of bbc content.

I'm basically wondering how you determine which scientists to believe by the way. What are the qualifications for you to be able to just generically label them "the scientists"

I don't have to believe any scientist, I just listen to the staff in ICU's who report they are filling up with Covid/ Omicron cases, in one hospital in the North West there were 11 patients in with the virus, 9 un vaccinated.

They were all eminent scientists, and professors,  as I have explained to LV if they are scientists in the field of health then by and large I will go with them. I think there is to much fun being made on this thread, stating figures are oversubscribed, it’s only a sniffle, get on with your life. Well as I know from my own family, some people are not so lucky, and have to be very careful.
It is up to you RB who you go along with, whether it’s the Government scientists, or LVs back street experts.

Hospitalisations are currently rising 8% daily. Which is quite worrying as a good percentage of positives are from the younger age groups

Absolute rubbish and clear scaremongering tactics.

Attached is the government’s own hospitalisation statistics.

Up on the previous day but down on the days before that. So clearly not increasing 8% every day.

Which staff in ICUs are you listening to?

Given that as of yesterday there were only 15 people in the whole country ‘with’ Omicron (with, not because of) I fail to see how they are ‘filling up’.

Also given there are currently c7.5k people in hospital with it, compared to c40k at the peak, I’d say we have plenty of head room yet because anyone could claim, with a straight face, that we’re filling up.

Common sense and actual facts George.

No wonder we've not seen you on here for far too long.

I agree with your entire post up until the last line.

To be clear, I believe the vaccine works to an extent in reducing symptoms and preventing death. It has quite clearly failed to live up to the promises we were made by the manufacturers and the politicians which is why we're in a situation now whereby they are jabbing people for a 3rd time, 3 months after their second dose. We were told there was around 95% efficacy for some of them remember? There are loads of articles from MPs and politicians across the world saying just get jabbed and its over. They were wrong.

I find it quite staggering that anyone believes that we are currently so close to a full blown lock down because a small number of people are not vaccinated when we all know vaccinated people can catch and transmit (and still potentially die from covid). The data is in. Israel, Gibraltar, UK. All have high levels of vaccination, all still apparently firmly in the grips of a pandemic.

Regal, The vaccines are very effective, it's confusing what the 95% effective statement means.

Pfizer said the efficacy of it's it's vaccine was 95%, Moderna 94%, J&J 66% etc after two jabs.

For comparison the two dose MMR vaccine is 97% protective against measles and 88% against mumps.

What this means is in a carefully controlled clinical trial the Pfizer fully vaccinated people had a 95% lower risk of developing COVID-19 compared to the control group who weren't vaccinated. In effect Vaccinated people were 20x less likely than the control group to contract Covid-19. They defined Covid-19 disease as  having one symptom with a positive Covid test.

All 3 vaccines were 100% effective at protecting from severe disease after 6 weeks (Moderna) and 7 weeks (Pfizer and JJ) in the clinical trials.

In the real world I think they've been surprised by the reducing levels of antibodies hence the need for boosters.

There shouldn't be any more lockdowns unless there is a real need as now there are tools to treat this disease. People vaccinated and unvaccinated should decided on the risk they're willing to accept and live accordingly.  However it is just wrong that some people won't get the jab.

You'd quite happily do this forever you would.
Until the Virus is eliminated world wide so it cannot mutate leaves us no option. Jabs to bring the pressure down on specialist hospital staff and beds, care capacity to cater for recovering patients. The backlog of deferred treatments will continue to mount.

Ok Fosse, yeah, until its eliminated worldwide let's just put life on hold.

You know that isn't possible.

This is here for the long haul and there plenty of other variants  along the way.

I'm sorry mate, I respect you, but people need to get real.

A prime example of scoffing, I like a pint and overseas holidays, as a matter of fact I have been abroad twice recently, but we are now in a different ball park, to protect my family I am now being extra careful, and that is the way it will stay until the figures improve. If you wish to be hung ho then carry on.

Until then we have to deal with it, although Britain is an island it is no barrier to a virus which can come from anywhere in the world. Jabs as with flu and sufficient hospital capacity is required.

We do have to deal with, you're right there.

Get vaccinated or take your risk and don't.

There are countless other things that can harm you.

There are far, far, far more deadly things out there.

And you wouldn't think twice about them.
