Would a Database program have been more appropriate than a spreadsheet for the Test and Trace?

Stop being sensible.  We have all sorts of government departments but don't seem to have a software engineering department to design all these IT systems which are needed by the NHS and other organisations.

Contract things out without knowing what it is and wonder why it does not work.

The problem will be that this world beating system would have needed to run across multiple platforms, all running different operating systems etc...  so they will have plumbed for a temporary solution like using an old version of excel as it will work on everything they have.  As it was working nobody had bothered to plan for the next step and here we are, but Tory call girl, Dido Harding gets another job and yet some still Bang Boris's drum!   They are fast becoming as dillusional as those that waited to Trump outside the hospital.

I suspect there have been many plans implemented over the years to sort the IT side of things out, contracts awarded no doubt.  The trouble is, the committee will keep getting chopped and changed, a new person bought in every few months as others get moved around, who pauses everything for review and restarts with there own vision only to be moved on and so the cycle continues.

This happened with SOT Council where they had to give back Millions of pounds of EU grant money because they failed to spend it during a 2 year period.  They kept changing the head honcho for the regeneration and simply ran out of time in the end.  Of course, the  north of England will never again  have access to such funding now the locals have bitten off the hand that fed them,  but that's another issue.

Bottom line is, the jobs are all filled with half soaked cronies and not people who can actually do anything of value.

Its one of the reasons I dislike party politics, party politicians and politicians in general.

Johnson tells us tonight that he arranged meetings with Liverpool officials today and had great dialogue with them.🤔Strange,as they've just been responding on Radio5live that they were contacted 10 mins before the meeting, therefore impossible for them to get from Liverpool. What a bloody farce!!!

https://www.theguardian.com/business/live/2020/oct/13/uk-unemployment-covid-19-furlough-imf-global-economy-business-live

UK unemployment rate jumps to 4.5% as Covid-19 jobless crisis deepens - And worse news to come.

I said it at the time, a classic example of Johnson pretending everything was fine and they were doing a great job, coupled with his love of stupid slogans.... His plan was going to create "Jobs Jobs Jobs"
