The NHS are not run by people with a medical background. My criticism of the NHS is not those at the front line who in a whole work very hard but the general running by middle and senior managers is pretty awful.

Who changed it all because the NHS Matron style was undermanaged and needed internal competition and a vast amount of paper work?

True, but if you don’t try something different you will only get same results.

Asking electricians to repair plumbing is not likely to improve things either.  The basic difference between the UK and Germany,  bosses know their industry.

Something the UK had trouble grasping in the 50s, no doubt there is a modern expression  I could use in Leicester based on minimum wage avoidance. But not wishing to wander off topic.

Really?

Its bloody obvious isn't it?

Its also a warning shot.  Pubs are failing to follow existing guidelines and are now getting a last chance before being shut completely.

Drunk people do not follow social distancing and at a time when emergency services are going to start getting stretched as cases rise, we dont need ambulances and a and e capacity being taken up with people who have been out drinking.

Its not rocket science really.

It's not gonna work though is it ? People will just go out earlier and a lot of pubs will definitely be having lock ins on the slide.

You walk round Newcastle during the day and you can see the bars busy and full of the giro day lot. Most pubs in the week already shut at 10pm and 11pm at the weekend now anyway , closing one hour early when one most folk have left the boozer by then anyway isn't gonna make a difference whatsoever.

Well it will for the reasons I have stated.  If punters and boozers circumvent it they will be closed completely and only have themselves to blame.  So if people want pubs to stay open they need to stop behaving like a spoilt kid that has had there favourite toys taken away and start acting like grown ups and follow distancing, table service etc, and any pubs flouting rules want reporting and closing for good.

Pubs have spectacularly failed to control there customers, most haven't even tried.  Customers need to grow up and publicans need to grow some - or they will be gone.

Its a warning shot, take it or leave it.

Edit: last comment aimed at pubs, not you.

I agree completely with what you're saying but I just see can't many people listening or caring at this point. No doubt when the pubs shut at night , the younger ones will just congregate around someone's house rather than a bar/club and thus spreading the virus like it has been doing.

No chance it will work. People will just go out earlier and be drunk earlier. Best of just shutting them.

I think the government are only proposing tinkering with the regulations so they can say their actions brought the virus under control. If they were genuinely worried they would do something much stronger. Should not have long to wait though before Johnson makes his latest announcement.

Oh and no football crowds either but go into a pub where there is less fresh air. Makes loads of sense!

Much of it is now nonsensical.

I'm starting to wonder why anything was opened up at all if we're going to do this everytime "cases" start to go up.

Of course they'll go up.

But, sooner or later, we're going to have to face up to the fact that it's out there and we get on with things.

We've had a flu vaccine since the late 70's

Guess what?

It still exists and it still kills people.

Flu mutates, as does Covid, so a different vaccine is required in the case of flu most years, and still a lot of people die from it.

Quite

But the world hasn't stayed closed down, not daring to go through it's front door because of that has it?

If we're not careful there won't be anything left to go back to.

Vale for instance. Not that it's the most important thing but not many lower league clubs will survive another season being binned partway through.

There's got to be a point where we have to live with it.

If not, we're going to end up with a pretty sad little world.
