Besides the great 3-0 result yesterday against Colchester.Anyone else think the pitch held out very well. After all the rain we have recently had I would have expected the pitch to be really cut up and like a quagmire. But at the end of the game the pitch looked very well.Must be down to the great work Speedy has done.

Got to be all down to Speedy, must be one of the best groundsmen around.

Good point Melv, it didn't/hasn't seem to cut up as badly as in previous years when after 20 mins post November there would be huge divots all over the pitch.

Also on iFollow it's very, very noticeable how big Vale's pitch is compared to those of the like of FGR, Morecambe and others in lge 2

I doubt very much that Speed has done any different than he has done in the last 30 odd years.

But, perhaps, the current owners have invested money into the pitch problems which have blighted Vale Park since it’s opening in 1950, which most certainly has not been the case in recent decades.

If this is the case, then yet more proof (if any was needed) of the positive influence of the new ownership.

I was always lead to believe it’s the biggest pitch in the country, including Wembley.

The pitch has held up well for a few years now. It is credit to Speedy and his team. I have also noted that this season Vale exploit the width of the pitch and we eventually overun teams down the flanks and through the middle with Burgess and Conlon with Joyce sitting in.

It's working well

The groundsmen need a good clap on the back for their work on this pitch.  Seeing other pitches in all the leagues show how much love is going into ours.  Some are showing more sand than grass and others seem to be getting cut up badly.

Thank you for your hard work.

There was a lot of work done prior to this season which included lots of sand being laid on the playing surface.

It won’t hurt that Speedy can now spend all his time concentrating on being groundsman, rather than dogsbody, as was the case prior to the new owners taking over and appointing a stadium manager.  Even so, it’s hard to believe the condition of the pitch considering the amount of wet weather we’ve had.

Speedy and al the staff deserve a lot of credit for their hard work.
