Bobby Madley - Invited to ref in EFL1 & 2

Disgraced ex Greed Is Good League ref Bobby Madley has been invited to referee in the lower league’s from next season.

Less than 2 years after being sacked for sending video’s mocking disabled people, his sins no longer seem worthy of sustained punishment.

Whether the original punishment was justifiable or not is for each individual to decide for themselves. But what has changed the authorities view of his “crime” to see fit to invite him back ?

What do people think ?

TREVOR KETTLE !    If this referee is reformed then OK. He made a mistake and has been punished . Trevor Kettle has NOT been punished for being useless for at least 6 years to my knowledge, so lets just have a straight swap and move on

As the EFL consists of  three league’s, why do the powers that be think it’s ok for him to ref in the two lower league’s, but not in the highest division under their control.

Are they saying that his presence is not acceptable in their showcase league, but he’s ok for the “other lot” ?

Surely he’s either accepted back with open arms and is available to ref in all EFL divisions,, or not at all.

In my view, it’s a strange decision from all angle’s.

What he did was unpleasant.  He lost his job.  He's been punished.  End of.

I agree Jean.

That he's been invited back doesn't mean he will come back. Sadly, this sorry episode will follow and taunt him should he return.

Yeah, seems a strange one. Still he's very welcome in the lower leagues as he should be a higher standard of referee than what we're used to.

Listening to the Beeb this morning it seems the mediation 'inviting' him to return includes participation in 'counselling sessions'.

You can just about guarantee the EFL know full well his football profile will cause him problems on and off the pitch hence the 'invitation' rather than full reinstatement.
