VAR & Manchester City FA Cup

According to Kieran Maguire on the Price of Football blog I am astounded  to find out that Port Vale Football Club HAD to pay 50% of £9,250.00 + VAT for the use of VAR in our recent cup game.

This also applies to Rochdale, Sheffield Wednesday, Oxford, Tranmere, Shrewsbury, Peterborough, Huddersfield, Luton,  Wigan, Forest, Boro, Fylde, Derby and  Leeds.

The thing thats really makes me angry is the clubs mentioned were not aware of this additional cost.

My advice to C&K would be to tell the FA to go and get stuffed.

If it had disallowed the 2 goals it might have been worth it seriously though .£9.250 for something no one wants is a joke.

Part of the operating costs of the game as with all cup-ties played on Prem grounds,  I expect we paid 50% of the electricity  costs of the floodlights as well. Not that I agree with VAR, but if it is compulsory on Prem grounds this season I don't think we have any choice. I would prefer that all cup games be played under the same conditions, i.e. without VAR.

You talk about operating costs, if we had to pay 50% of the Etihads operating costs on a match day I bet we made nowt on that game.

To make approx 150k from those FA Cup games is extortionate, to make it from cash strapped clubs just shows what a  shambles the game has come to.

To charge the Vale half of 9k plus VAT for VAR  is mealy mouthed

Match Expenses (operating costs of the game)  are deducted from receipts  under FA Cup rules. I argued that all cup games be played under the same conditions, i.e. without VAR

Latest rules I can find.

The net gate receipts due from a match (except replayed matches in consequence of a breach of the Rules) shall be the total ticket sales for the match less VAT, the travelling (and possibly accommodation) expenses of the Visiting Club, the fees and expenses of the Match Officials, and other match expenses allowed under the Competition Rules (which include costs relating to gate attendants, turnstile operators, stewards, police charges, floodlighting in accordance with the Competition Rules, contributions to the costs of First Aid Helpers and any costs relating to clearing the ground of snow and water provided the Visiting Club is consulted beforehand on the approximate costs).  Any shortfalls in receipts are the responsibility of the home club and are not to be shared.  The Professional Game Board shall have the power from time to time to issue instructions as to what shall and shall not be allowed as a match expense.

(VAR included as a Match Official expense I assume)

From the 3rd round onwards clubs get 45% each, with 10% going to the pool.

Why hasn’t anybody from the club come out and told the fans how much the club made from the Man City game it’s over a month ago now

I assume because agents and other clubs would have wanted a share during the  January transfer period.
