Me too Jean. Absolutely.

Is this a project for the Supporters Club?

The Supporters Club should definitely lead something and try and get some local businesses (Autonet, M Club, KMF) who have sponsored us before if they want to chip in for some heavy advertising benefits upon completion.

Maybe there could be a tiered reward system;

Anything up to £20 is just for people who wish to donate to the club.

£20 - name on a seat

£50 - Name on a wall of honour inside the concourse  + name on seat (?)

£100 - Meet the players/day at training/tour of the ground/plus other benefits

North of £100 you'd look at matchday tickets, maybe one of those commemorative shirts with all the names we had a few seasons ago,  invite to the opening ceremony of the ground, and everything else.

With a fanbase now regularly topping 5,000 I think with enough coordination, planning, and promoting we could make a good dent into the £100,000 total. You'd need all of those 5,000 to donate £20, or half to donate an average of £40.

It'd need to be a professionally organised effort with a dedicated small group of organisers who promote it, keep track of finances, and come up with initiatives to raise money. In the age of social media we've never had so much access to so many Vale fans worldwide, and it would be a brilliant way for us fans to contribute meaningfully to the club we've been unable to help for 2 decades, and a good gesture of gratitude to the faith and work of our owners.

With the right planning and vision it could be done, and then named in honour of the supporters.

As great as a crowd funding would be for this (and I'd be happy to chip in) is this where we need the investment or would it be better to chip in to improve the playing budget etc?

This would be a one off payment though; the playing budget is year on year and would probably pay for one decent players salary for one season.

This could be a lasting testament to the fans' efforts to improve the club; a signal of The New Era and finally completing our ground after decades.

Completey understand if people think its not needed, but if we do have aspirations of playing higher, finishing the ground (finally) to maximise revenue would be a good way to start.

Just my view. Happy for people to disagree.

It's on facebook that the Supporters Club have officially been approached over a fundraiser for the Lorne Street which is a great idea because it gives the idea some traction, however apparently a couple of the committee are against the idea.......Thats a shame,  whether  this can be overcome remains to be seen,it is also been suggested that if the SC  can't help another way will be found.

Fans need canvassing.

In my view there is overwhelming support for the idea but there will be a few who would prefer it be spent on existing parts of the ground, which is fair enough.

In my view finishing the Lorne Street would be a fantastic statement of our ambitions and the fresh start of this club, and give the fans something they have contributed to.

Copied off Facebook, it seems its caused a little upset lol.
So who are the dissenting few. Who it appears own agendas are bigger than the Clubs best interests.
Perhaps we could throw rotten Tomatoes at them and charge £10 a throw to raise the funds that way.

After the suggestion last night that we could start fund raising for the Lorne Street completion, I put it to the Supporters Club to run the campaign under their banner. The reason I did this was that I thought it would be more secure than an individual doing it and leaving themselves open to scrutiny. Mark Porter thinks it's a great idea and wants to run with it.

Mark has, however, had to send an email to SC members today to gauge fans opinion on this. The reason he has had to do this is that 2 of the supporters club committee he approached have disagreed with it.

I didn't put this to the SC to get their permission to fund raise, or for them to stipulate where the money is eventually spent, or to add conditions on donating the money to the club. I asked the Supporters Club as I felt it should be done properly and officially under their banner.

It would appear at least one of the SC committee seems to think he can operate outside of the SC's constitution and everyone needs to answer to him. May I remind this committee member that the Supporters club isn't about him and what he wants, it's constitution states it is there to represent the fans and act on their wishes.

If you have received the email, please reply to Mark asap so we can get the ball rolling. However, if the SC can't offer the fans the opportunity to do this fundraising under their banner, because of individuals, then we'll do it anyway and sort out another way.

Personally I'm not going to be dictated to by somebody who is acting above his station and quite frankly I think he should resign from his position as it's evidently clear he hasn't got the fans interests at heart, just his own and we've had enough of them at the Vale.

Rant over UTV!

Can’t really understand what the debate is here.

The ground has been a building site for over 20 years, and as soon as somebody suggests finishing it off, people have a go.

I think we need to close the book on it personally. It symbolises a lot of struggles, from the Rudge sacking onwards, that we never managed to recover from properly. That is until now hopefully.

I've replied to SC and I'm against the fund raising idea. Waste of supporters money and the clubs for that matter.100k for another stand we will never fill.

Not against SC raising money for the club at all.... but not for this.

It is for a family area with special facilities that we do not have elsewhere, not a waste of money in that respect.

We may not fill it now, but if we've got ambition we've got to be looking to have a fully-equipped family stand. It completes the main stand of the ground, is a show of ambition, completes one of the best grounds in the lower leagues, and provides long-term extra revenue streams for the club.

Its the same with the ticketing system; we probably don't need a loyalty scheme right now, but as an employee of the club told me, "everything is being done to make sure we're ready for Championship football". We don't want to arrive as a tinpot lower league club with outdated ticket systems and unfinished grounds, just happy to be there with the big boys; we want to arrive as a team who feel they belong there and intend on competing, as we did in our heyday.

Should we leave the Lorne Street as a building site forever? Just because we have an empty, unfinished ground now doesn't mean we have to settle for that forever. Let's have a bit of ambition and self-belief.

In my view its the perfect symbol of the New Era.

Fans, who have been through the wringer, funding the completion of a stand which has become a saga, ending 20 years of turmoil and poor ownership and kickstarting an ambitious Port Vale that wants to get back into being a well-respected team in this country. Not Port Vale, perpetually in financial trouble with an unfinished stand and low standards.

Alas, you'll always find the dissenting few. In my opinion, if the majority are for it, we should go fot it.
