Match Thread: Northampton Town v Port Vale

In a run of tough games for us,  the  Cobblers are undefeated for 7 league games, although with a cup replay at Derby  in the week and Vale without a game  the balance may tip in our favour. Will Monty  be in contention, and Brisley injury free?   Bit of a luxury in having options in spite of injuries, cameo appearance for Manny? Clarke`s return improving PO chances?  If we are to get 4 points from the next 2 away games , FGR is the other, we need a draw here.  2-2 my forecast but hopeful of 3 points.

They are another tall, physically strong team who play a lot for long throws and corners. We'll have to be stronger than we were last weekend when defending the high ball.

I too would have Pope in for Bennett as he's better in the air.

Don't know how we can fit both Monty and Clark in.

I doubt Oyleleke will be ready to start a game for another week or two but might be on the bench to come on after half time. If fit he'd be a real asset to us.

Askey`s problem, keeping everyone he wants to keep, happy, but gives him more  scope for subs, injuries, tactics and rotation. Monty in midfield covering   Clarke`s runs? What we have needed, 15 or so players fighting for the shirt and adequate cover for injuries.

Well we have a fantastic chance now to finally close the gap to the playoffs playing the teams around us. I think these next 14 days could define our season.

With our best 2 midfielders hopefully coming back to the 1st team soon ...Bring it on!

This is going to be a very difficult game. Northampton are flying at the moment, 4 wins and a draw in there last 5.

It will be but I think more pressure on them than us. Expensive summer recruitment so they probably need promotion. We remain a long shot and overall have less expectations this season. Go out and give it a shot with not a lot to lose.
