A serious question - what is far-left in your eyes, and what policies have the Johnson administration enacted that you would deem socialist?

I was being facetious, it was more a comment on the abuse of the political specturm to smear, than my seriously suggesting he is a raging socialist all of a sudden. But some policies which I would call socialist policies would be lockdowns and the furlough scheme, and I'm quite concerned that he's going to start gluing his hand to the M25 at rush hour soon.

My post in the Coronavirus thread is more serious on this - I think, for the first time since he's been prime minister, it would be fair game to use the label fascist to describe some of the things he's doing. Although I'm a bit uneasy with the term because it's such a cliched pejorative for "right wing" nowadays. He's lacking the racial/ethnic based rhetoric but the blaming of unvaccinated people and the propaganda surrounding that, I think, is very similar to how fascists would blame a group of people for the perceived failings of society. I don't think he's moved more right. I definitely think he has moved left since the 2019 election. But he has also moved way more authoritarian. There's a genuine case to debate either side of him being more socialist or fascist currently. Either is terrifying.

I started reading up on the foundation of fascism and its relationship to socialism and although this is definitely not a clear situation, a penny or two dropped when I started to learn about what was driving Mussolini, how he started and where he ended up. It gave me a whole new perspective on extremist politics. I'd always believed the spectrum was a horse shoe, but the difference between socialism and fascism is shockingly small, despite apparently being on opposite ends of the spectrum.

It's sad as <ovf censored> but the actual principles underpinning all of our opinions is what I'm fascinated by, rather than the opinions themselves at times.
