Beyond Brexit - A new dawn? A leap of faith?

Has anyone told shell about how bad brexit is for trade/economy/everything else?

Just wondering where this fits in with the fantasy anti-brexit narrative on here? Shouldn't companies of this size be leaving the uk, not coming here? And they're leaving the netherlands, which I believe is in the EU too? Sounds quite embarrassing to me.

Yeah we never had any illegal immigration whilst in the EU.

Got any thoughts on the Polish border clashes? I thought the EU hated borders?

Immigration is now at record levels your hero and idol Boris promised to stop immigration and get control of our borders but that was just another lie like most of the things he says

My hero and idol? 😂 I had high hopes for him but he has been pretty disastrous over the last 15 months or so. Ever since he went all socialist really.

The "stopping immigration" thing was a race baiting lie from remainers. Thats what they wanted to make brexit about so that they could dishonestly use the race card. If anything, this shows that remainers lied more than it shows brexiteers lied.

The stopping of illegal immigration is down to Priti Patel currently, and she's failing spectacularly.

So Boris is not far enough right for you. As we thought RB you are off the spectrum

Correct, I hate the far left with an absolute passion. It is a genuinely evil ideology and causes unimaginable pain and suffering (and death) to innocent people. I'd much rather Boris moved a bit more right and I'd settle for centre left right about now.

If I'm off the spectrum, and I'm genuinely just right of centre and that's mostly due to my strong libertarian values rather than anything else, then what does that make you? If the political centre is beyond your horizon, maybe it's you with the extreme views?

Interestingly enough, I have just completed another political compass test. I've questioned a lot of my political beliefs over the last 12 months or so due to what has been going on in the world, and I've definitely moved on some issues, although not radically.

I've come out pretty much where I was before, which is surprising:

A serious question - what is far-left in your eyes, and what policies have the Johnson administration enacted that you would deem socialist?

I was being facetious, it was more a comment on the abuse of the political specturm to smear, than my seriously suggesting he is a raging socialist all of a sudden. But some policies which I would call socialist policies would be lockdowns and the furlough scheme, and I'm quite concerned that he's going to start gluing his hand to the M25 at rush hour soon.

My post in the Coronavirus thread is more serious on this - I think, for the first time since he's been prime minister, it would be fair game to use the label fascist to describe some of the things he's doing. Although I'm a bit uneasy with the term because it's such a cliched pejorative for "right wing" nowadays. He's lacking the racial/ethnic based rhetoric but the blaming of unvaccinated people and the propaganda surrounding that, I think, is very similar to how fascists would blame a group of people for the perceived failings of society. I don't think he's moved more right. I definitely think he has moved left since the 2019 election. But he has also moved way more authoritarian. There's a genuine case to debate either side of him being more socialist or fascist currently. Either is terrifying.

I started reading up on the foundation of fascism and its relationship to socialism and although this is definitely not a clear situation, a penny or two dropped when I started to learn about what was driving Mussolini, how he started and where he ended up. It gave me a whole new perspective on extremist politics. I'd always believed the spectrum was a horse shoe, but the difference between socialism and fascism is shockingly small, despite apparently being on opposite ends of the spectrum.

It's sad as <ovf censored> but the actual principles underpinning all of our opinions is what I'm fascinated by, rather than the opinions themselves at times.
