New Board Structure

Have a gander at how well written the statement is. Compare to Norm's 'valiants. sweety jar soon be opened. papa smurf' communication.

Key points include;

Kevin moving to am Ambassadorial Role

Colin in control of the football business and Claire Halket in control of the non-football business.

A new Vice-Chair of the Board

Specialists in IT, Finance, and Law appointed to the board with specific roles related to their expertise.

So the Board of Directors is now:

Carol - Chairlady

Kevin - Ambassador

Kate Beardmore - Vice Chair

Colin Garlick - CEO

Claire Halket - COO

Marian Humphreys - Law

Ian Lewis - IT (modernising ticket system is first job)

Rob Moorhouse - Finance

People may overlook it but this is a superb example of the professional operation now being run out of Vale Park. People who know what they're doing with a bit of strategy and long-term vision.

it must be one of the most diverse boards in the Football League with four female board members. It's a great example and shows football boardrooms should not just be male dominated.

It is nice to see but from a practical viewpoint I couldn't care less if they're male or female as long as they're the best person for the job!

I'm excited about the future of this club once again and it feels great!

I think for too long in football it's been the opposite approach. It wasn't that long ago that club frowned on women even entering the boardroom. I've often felt that even recently the approach has been that it doesn't matter if there's a better qualified woman, invariably a man is appointed as the boardroom as if men's football can somehow only be administrated by men.

We've had two administrations under all-male boards.

So, I'm pleased that Vale are not reluctant to appoint women to the board if they think they are best qualified to do the job.

As a result of that unblinkered thinking we've actually ended up with a 50/50 split of women and men on the board which is great to see.

Spot on, couldn't agree more!

Couldn't agree more with your later post Rob--irrespective of gender, race or creed are they the best people for their respective roles?  We know all about Carol & Colin, but what do we know of the back stories and qualifications of the other board members? Can anyone shed some more info? Whatever their CVs, for the sake of PV I wish them well in their new roles.

This is quite foreign territory for me. Port Vale and professionalism have rarely been spoken about in the same breath. Another piece in the jigsaw of rebuilding our club. Things have to be right off the field before anything can be addressed on the field, which is exactly why our progress has to be viewed as a long term and sustainable journey rather than the instant results that many people prefer to pass comment on.

This is a real business setup,  a million miles away from the dictatorship that has preceded it, but it must be given time to find its feet. Yes, there will be some quick wins, some of which we've seen already,  but most of the real strategy will be created over time and may not be easily as obvious or visible.

Nonetheless,  we're now in the hands of proper successful business management who also happen to have a demonstrable emotional attachment to the club and the area. So before there's any more talk of lack of ambition and vision,  it would be wise for everyone to take a breath, understand, that while not having millions of pounds to burn, we now have a board that without doubt,  will make every decision that will be in the sole best interest of Port Vale. We must also be mindful that even the most experienced of boards and committees can occasionally get things wrong,  but we have human beings at the helm, not algorithmic robots.

Great news and a massive plus for the club and the example they have set.

They perform similar roles at Synectics I think?

They do.  Clair Halkett has been working at Vale for a while and the other four new names are all on the Synectics Board.  Kate Beardmore is Carol and Kevin's daughter.  All good, experience folk.
