Match Thread: Morecambe v Port Vale

Grinding out wins at strugglers is just as important as matching the front runners. The absence of Taylor is a problem as is Manny`s  but it gives Conlon a chance to settle in and get some match fitness in the meantime, also for  Burgess to show his worth. After  the Stevenage win, build up some momentum with the Morecambe and Orient games, for the Swindon challenge. No messing about 3 points are necessary, 3-1 to the Vale

As with Stevenage their last opponent was Colchester, both ground out gritty draws against a team who are 12 unbeaten.

That said they aren't 23rd for nothing and have an awful defensive record .

I'm not convinced having not made any subs until the last minute that JA will freshen things up . I expect to see the same starting X1 and Popey has a few goals in the bag against these in the past.

I'm looking for 4 points from the next 2 games but realistically we need to be winning this one .

1-3 victory please

Should we manage to pick up 4 points from these next two, get Oyeleke back involved, and sign Gabriel + 2 others, I am becoming increasingly optimistic that we'll have something to play for well into April.

We might not make it but there are 5 sides from 3rd-7th on 44 points, with us on 38.

These have conceded the most in the division so would hope our chance creation gets back up to scratch.

2-1 Vale

Morecambe signed 4 players last week, including Jordan Slew from Ashton Utd!

They have lost 15 games and, as pointed out above, conceded the most goals in the division.

A draw with Colchester is a decent result.

A game that we should be expecting to dominate.

Another litmus test for our season.

If we play like we did yesterday then I'd be surprised if we win as we were poor and it looked a pretty much certain nil nil till we got the penalty. Perhaps make 1 change atkinson in for conlon or burgess. Pope maybe suspended we dont know that yet if so then bennett will most likely play.

We should win this really but you never know with vale go for a 2 nil away win.

I don’t think we will make the play offs realistically but while we’re close, we’ve got to aim for it.

Surely if we’re to stand any chance we’ve got to win this and beat Orient, especially considering our following two games are Swindon & Exeter.

Looking forward to this as it’s relatively close to me. Love a Tuesday night game.

If we finish 7th I fancy us to go up, if we finish 4th I dont. It seems that we play better when we have a free shot. Ie, against teams where we are expected to lose. The ones we expect to win, the pressure is on we somehow play really bad. For that reason, I think this one will be a draw 0-0.

Hope to be proved wrong.

I think we all know that we don’t create/score enough to really contest the play offs this season. If we could address that this month then I feel we could find a way into the play offs

We have got to be looking to take all 3 points tomorrow surely , but they are fighting for their lives so it will be tough

I think lack of goals are our achilles heel. I go into our games thinking we have 1 goal in us, never feel we are going to go 2-0 up. Because of our lack of firepower when we go 1-0 down I never feel that is a game we can still win , just hoping for a draw. Relating this back to the Morecambe game not expecting us to convincingly  put them to the sword. Would happily accept another 1-0 win but can see it being a low scoring game either way with my money on 0-0.

Agree mate.

Although we have done terrifically well after the past few seasons and most of us would have jumped at the present situation, there is still a feeling of frustration amongst some fans.

It is and always has been, a massive obvious flaw in our make up, in so much that points are gained by scoring goals and we simply must have another forward, in addition to Pope, who can create and put away chances on a fairly regular basis.

If we are to continue our progress then surely we have to look at ways of changing our system from time to time, so that we can have 2 men up front capable of making the opposition to think differently about us.

At present, as I say, we are doing better than we could have hoped for and I see Askey's point of view, BUT for the future success of Vale we do have to bring in a goal scorer sooner rather than later. We cannot rely on Pope and the one man up front syndrome if we have intentions of promotion and further progress.

I still believe though that the likes of Morecambe are the games we have to look at as 3 points gained, nothing less. I will not be devastated if we get 1 point but my gut tells me that with a more attacking intent these are the fixtures that are crying out for a win. UTV.
