Vale have had a blow with Taylor not being fit but so have Stevenage - their England U19 central defender, Kelland Watts, has been withdrawn from his loan spell, in which he played every game, by Newcastle United.

Ooh, that's a bonus!

Straight swap Atkinson for Taylor is what I think will happen.

Highly probable as it's an away game.

What's your view on Conlon?

I initially assumed that he would slot in.

Either way, we lose the impetus of the forward thinking and running if Taylor.

There’s always the possibility of Conlon starting in his place I guess, didn’t that happen at Cheltenham? I’m sure he came in for Burgess or Taylor for that game.

But the only reason I say Atkinson is that I thought he had a decent game Tuesday and he did well when he played at Mansfield over Christmas. Personally I think Conlon is a player to get on the ball to try and dictate play, but we already have Joyce doing that. In a 4-3-3 we need energy in the 2 midfielders either side of Joyce that will get forward. Conlon hasn’t got that knack of making runs into the box like Taylor does, although he can pick out a shot from distance if given the time. He’s been unlucky this season that he got injured, sent off and Burgess and Taylor have both done well. I know fans probably won’t agree but I think he’s a tidy player to keep the ball and keep it moving, but he isn’t someone that seems to stand out to most people I guess.

On tuesdays showing Browne doesn’t deserve a chance on Saturday, he did nothing of note or make you think that he should be getting a chance in the league games over Amoo or Worrall.

With Jake Taylor injured, an early appreciation of our strength without him, definitely a less dynamic midfield.  Bring Monty forward but who as left back?
Monty has largely been shocking in his alleged natural position so I personally wouldn't even consider that! Atkinson seems the most obvious replacement as I think conlon sits too deep and slows things down too much.

I'd rather Conlon replaces Taylor in all honesty. Nothing against Atkinson but him and Joyce in midfield and we become too slow
Conlon is our slowest thinking midfielder who needs far too many touches. It has to be Atkinson for me
