Getting to the point now where, regardless of level played at/individual quality, Tom Pope is amongst the most legendary figures of this club's history:

  • Local lad and fan
  • Record-breaking scoring season to secure our only promotion in 30 years
  • Top scorer in consecutive seasons to keep the club in the Football League
  • Record club goalscorer since 1945
  • Scored at the treble holders away, after tweeting he'd do so
  • Scored the hat-trick to secure the tie at the treble holder
  • 3 time player of the year winner
  • League 2 player of the year

310 games, 109 goals, countless priceless memories.

And manager in the coming future 👍

Great day out with fantastic support and fantastic memories.

Was distinctly unimpressed with City; sterile (technically good), risk-averse football in a soulless bowl with silent fans. Their first effort was going wide till deflected, then two scrappy, VAR influenced goals killed the game.

Well done Vale; a great effort from all and a great earner from the club.

We weren't great.  It was a reserve side plus Bernardo and Aguero.

I knew Vale fans would be distinctly unimpressed with the atmosphere from City fans.  Our popular end is the stand which you had.  Whenever we have a Cup game that end gets broken up.   The atmosphere is very different when we have a big game in the League.

At least we turned up though unlike most FA Cup games.   I watched the highlights yesterday and there were some very poor crowds.  The FA Cup still represents a great opportunity to get to Wembley but their must be a logical explanation for low crowds.  It seems the  Premier League and Champions League are benefiting at the expense of everything else.

Good Luck in League 2.   I'll look out for your results.

The Pope's goal was class.

What a day! From day drinking in Manchester to watching my team hold their own against one of the best in the world. Every single one of them 14 players and management staff, can hold their heads up high.
I said before the game all I wanted to see was a meaningful Vale goal and we were treated with a fantastic one. A brilliant team goal capped off by Sir Tom Pope. What a header, this man loves proving people wrong. Special mention to Dave Amoo as well, his cross was sublime. The scenes will stay with me forever.
I never been as proud to say I support Port Vale. We gave such a good account of ourselves not just on the pitch, but off it as well. 8,000 were loud and a credit to the club.
What a fantastic evening. UTV!

Fantastic day, couldn't have asked for much more really. We got to see some of the best players in the world against our team of freebies and local lads and we didn't disgrace ourselves. The Pope goal will never be forgotten.

VAR is <ovf censored>.

I've just read a few comments on their forum, quite funny really. Surely the Man City fans who have watched them for 20+ years know the game and recognise that the vast majority of their fan base are new.

The ones getting annoyed with the "where were you when you were <ovf censored>" and YNWA chants (I didn't hear YNWA myself by the way although have seen a video) must be so new to live football, and completely unexposed in the premier league to true football fans who don't attach their passion and love for their club and the sport to the team who is most likely to win the title.

It's a shame for "new" fans at premier league clubs. They simply won't ever have the experience that we had yesterday. It makes me laugh when you hear it from an 08'er. I feel sorry for them.

Great day out and The 90 mins was superb as well inside for the first time an amazing stadium.

we scored and not only scored, we equalised. With a wonderful worked goal from back to front. If only we could’ve put a couple more crosses in Pope would’ve scored a another one in certain. The speed they had in closing down and going forward was frightening. When you witness that live it’s scary. Worrall and Amoo, (our quicker players) looked like they couldn’t run second half when up against these lot.

also the Man City fans were a joke. I’ve heard they were awful at the Etihad in terms of atmosphere but I didn’t think they would be that bad. Saturday tee time game, few pints and they still couldn’t sing. Very disappointed. It’s a good job they saw the Vale fans making so much noise. They’ve become a bit of a plastic club now with all that money. Shame

It was a Cup Final for you.  For us it was a game against League 2 opposition with a reserve side which we knew we'd almost certainly win.  There was no edge to it.   I knew City end would be flat.

All I can say is that it isn't like that for all league games, but it is for some!  City are actually one of the best and noisiest crowds in the Premier League so if you think we're bad try Arsenal, Spurs, Chelsea, Liverpool or Man Utd.

Vale were loud at times.  Did your club proud.

Maybe we'll meet again in the Cups again.

Where did all the singers out your so called popular end go then? Surprised all the bottom tier couldn’t make any noise? You were better than that at Maine road. Suppose all this money you’ve got and a new generation of fan isn’t doing you any favours in creating an atmosphere at home. Good luck though next season 👍

I've got nothing against your team, mate, I just thought a lot of the posts from your fans were pathetic.  City, like Vale, have spent a lot of their history as the second team in your city.  In the 90s while Fergie's lot were winning title after title you spent a lot of your time in the division below and even had the ignominy of being relegated to the third tier because of Vale's win at Huddersfield on the last day of the 97-98 season.

Yet some of your fans, most probably the latterday glory hunters, saw fit to mock a team which nearly went out of business last summer because of a lunatic owner and who turned up in numbers to support their players.

The amount of cash which has been poured into your club in recent years has given you the right to boast about your achievements.  I don't believe it has given your fans the right to mock our club and its supporters.  I would never do that to a non league club if we faced them in the Cup because I would respect that their supporters have backed what is most probably their local team and not mock them because they haven't got as much money as us and aren't as good.

If any City fan is mocking Vale then they are in a tiny minority.

City were a yo-yo club for years.  We know we're very very lucky, and intend to enjoy the good times whilst they are here.

I'm going back now to supporting my own team and will leave the Vale in peace until the next time.

however 1 small gripe, I didn't like some Vale fans singing you'll never walk alone. Bit small time that. We should have been singing Vale songs and Glad all Over.

Off the twitter video it’s about 25 people, out of 8000+, near the city fans singing it to wind the plastics up about not being able to buy the title this year. Total non event.

Their fans were appalling. Embarrassing. Imagine that soulless, plastic experience week in week out. Thoroughly commercialised and forced. The cringe of Kyle Walker awkwardly trying to advertise a Nissan Juke blared at you through scoreboard screens. Quiet as a library. More atmosphere in a hospice.

The proper city fans, the ones who aren’t 2008 or later bandwagon acquisitions, are almost all saying fair play to Popey. The rest, well he’s had those plastic losers on strings. Not sure what’s funnier, their meltdowns on social media about him having Stones’ and Guardiola’s shorts down, the 128,000 likes his tweet has now amassed or the double digit Vale City match thread on the scumcake which had amassed more posts than the one they had for their game against a bus stop in Hounslow. Which they lost, obviously. Remember, they don’t care about or even think about us at all, but spend every waking moment commenting about Vale and crying their eyes out when they get something back. Rent free in their heads.

It was indeed a minority, Naz, but it was the very vocal minority on your message board and it left a rather unpleasant taste after what was a great day for us.  From reading their posts it seems a lot of them weren't even at the game!

Don't be a stranger on here - I've enjoyed reading your posts and in particular, the help and advice you gave before the game.  It will be nice to have an occasional visit from royalty!!

Also; thats a goal and 3 assists in his last 5 for the Amoo critics.

He doesn't like tackling but he's a decent winger.

Some bloke in front of me was screaming at him all game telling him to get tighter on his man and to “dive in at him”

Possibly the worst advice he could have dispensed given City pray on the opposition lunging in and being pulled out of position ... but hey ho... the bloke did look like he had studied at the highest level of coaching. Oh no, wait... he didn’t... he looked like an old bald bloke who loved a moan! 😂

I'm not best pleased with the man city comments from there fans on there forum. They are arrogant tossers calling us scum bags day trippers and the worst set of fans ever to come there stadium. They said we were bang average and didnt give us any praise at all. Infact the only decent comments we did get were from there manager. They are slagging Pope off yeah he goes on too much on twitter but hes a club legend 109 goals for us.

Also dont appreciate man city fans reporting vale fans for being in the home ends when all they wanted to do is see there team in there big cup final but couldn't get a ticket for the away end. I bet them same city fans weren't reporting there own fans when they were being racists towards players the other week.
