I could understand resting Pope, but Bennett did absolutely nothing,in fact I wondered if he’s been told he’s not wanted any more, he just didn’t look bothered at all.Pope and or Cullen should have been brought on sooner.

Macc’s off field problems have probably galvanised the players much the same as it did when we were in admin and the players had their contracts cancelled, we got promoted. Macc have played fewer games than everyone else plus have had 6 points deducted, otherwise they would be a few places further up the table.

Askey's tendency to gift wrap points to his old side is a pain. Thankfully only one this time.

It's frustrating because it isn't a great league this season, it's wide open and you can't be sure that it will still be the case next year. Crewe for example are steaming through the middle on the back of being a steady, settled side. In contrast we're slowly getting our act together after a chaotic few years and we were never going to resolve all our problems in one transfer window.

We aren't far away from challenging for the play offs, but the glass ceiling is all too evident. We've taken points off all the top teams barring Exeter but we've failed to beat so many teams at the bottom.

First half I said to the lads around me that Macclesfield looked like a team going through the motions with all the crap they’re dealing with. I really thought there would only be one winner. I thought first half we were having a load of joy down their left with Amoo and Gibbo linking well and we were getting the ball into the box a lot. Monty and Worrall played more like individuals yet Monty still found himself in some really good positions engineered by his own pace and skill. Burgess like Taylor gets himself into some good positions to get a shot off and I felt that joyce was controlling the game from the middle. I didn’t think they offered much threat at all, even though they kept the call well at times.

But those 2 goals we conceded were a real sucker punch. Arguably the first should have been closed down sooner and I think Smith was a little too far off their forward to allow him the space to turn and shoot for the second. But we fought back well, pressed and put pressure on them until we got the goal (similar to their second I thought) from Amoo. Even then I didn’t think we’d lose the game but we let ourselves down a bit in the final third with our movement and some stray passes. Maybe understandable given the weeks exertion? I don’t know. But we kept going til the last minute which was pleasing to see, but that tiny bit of quality was lacking when we needed it.

The Bennett/Pope debate is a good one, but I watch bennet play and I genuinely believe he makes a token effort to make it look like he’s doing stuff when a lot of his hold up play and heading is half hearted to me. I’m getting more and more convinced of that the more I see him play.

For me I was disappointed with a draw but I still felt we looked better than them, we just let ourselves down in that 5 minute spell when they got back into it. Credit to everyone for keeping going and getting a result though. Standout for me were Legge, Gibbo, Joyce and Burgess.

While heartedly agree about Bennett, have being saying it all season but I used to get slated. I’d attempt to ship him out this month, he reminds me of Quigley, who offered nothing. However Quigley is doing it for Barrow in the National League. For Bennett to get my support I’d like to see him challenging for balls in the air, which with his height you’d think would be the strongest part of his game. He wins no headers even when the defender is smaller, the reason for this being that he doesn’t try, he uses his energy running across the opposition area when the defenders have the ball. Can’t understand why if Pope didn’t start today, why we didn’t give Cullen a start, I thought he was good against Swindon and gave us impetus of what we had before Pope went off.

Just now, Santa said:

Bennett hasn't been great recently but I feel there's a part of the support who will get on his back because he isn't Pope.

I disagree. The problem is as I found today is that considering he is quite a big guy he gets knocked off the ball way too easily, wins nothing in the air and just does not look dangerous in the slightest.

Unfortunately there are a minority of home fans who seem to just get a kick out of slagging off our own players. Don't get it myself. But that is how some get their kicks. Nothing new. Remember Terry Bailey, Leon, even Mark and Nev Chamberlain taking right stick, amongst many many others.

You don't have to be black, but it helps. Sadly.
