Match Thread: Mansfield Town v Port Vale

Recommended Posts

Hopefully a return to winning days after a much   improved  performance against Cheltenham.  Although the  Stags are  7 games without a win, the run includes defeats against Swindon and Cheltenham.  Graham Coughlan`s 2nd game in charge and not to be taken lightly, always the chance of a bounce .  Let`s  carry on Xmas over Boxing Day with 3 points. No fresh injuries as far as we know.

worrying that they haven't won in 7 - Vale are usually generous to sides who haven't won for a while. Hopefully we can make it no win in 8 for them.

Cullen in for pope for me. He deserves a chance for at least 2-3 games, pope hasn't scored in 3, and the team hasn't scored in 2 of those 3.

Just out of interest, what did Cullen do yesterday to justify his selection instead of Pope?

It's not just about yesterday of course. I just think that from the limited chances he's been given this season he's shown he can score and given pope hasn't scored for 3, it's only fair to give him that opportunity for more than 20 mins here and there

That would change the whole way we are playing at the moment, with Pope holding the ball up for the on rushing Amoo and Worrall. Cullen can't play that role he has to be either one of two up front or just behind Pope to feed of his knockdowns imo.

We've had 1 good game in 3 playing 'the Pope way'. Before then, when Pope has been on the bench, we've played much faster, better and attractive football. Besides, Cullen hasn't been given any notable degree of opportunity to prove what role he can play. Yes, he is likely to be less effective than Pope when we lump the ball forwards, but on the flip side much more effective than Pope when we try to press high, and play quick football to feet. Take the oppos no16 on Saturday,. As small as they come, but very effective indeed with the style that they wanted to play. I, personally, would give Cullen a chance, rather than just dismiss him as not being able to 'play that role'.

I think by virtue of them not playing that Cullen and Archer have become better than they probably are.

Always the case

Does anyone know what it’s like for street parking?

Car Parking

There is some parking at the ground which costs £5. There is also the station car park which costs £4 for the day. This car park is located behind the adjacent Portland Retail Park (behind Burger King), which means it is handily placed for the away end. It is also signposted from the town centre ring road. Otherwise, it is a case of finding some street parking, especially on parts of the Nottingham Road and side streets off it. Please do not park in the retail park behind the away end. Parking is restricted to two hours and is camera monitored, so you will end up with an expensive parking ticket if you do park for longer than the two hours.

I doubt any camera will read my number plates at present.  Not unless someone were to wash all the (Stoke) off my car that is.
