Match Thread: Port Vale v Cheltenham Town

Tell you what, we were all excited by Worrall coming back and were having a moan about Amoo being in the squad. But to be fair the main threat has come from Gibbo and Amoo down the right. They’ve linked up well today, something that I don’t feel they’ve done too often. They’ve managed to play their way behind them, they’ve both been putting dangerous balls into the box. Amoo has the beating of them. Arguably Taylor or was it Burgess should have done better when we broke 2 on 1, but they go straight down the other end and score. Great ball in from Amoo for the OG, Pope nearly scored from a similar ball in from Gibbo too. As the half wore on we upped the tempo and finished it well. The only thing that’s let us down is some sloppy play at times, giving the ball away in some dangerous areas which virtually everyone seems to have done. Monty is having one of those games where nothing going right for him.

Entertaining game for me, if Vale keep getting as many balls into their box we'll score.

Lovely pass for Vale's goal by Jake Taylor, excellent cross by Amoo and if Tozzer hadn't have put the ball in the net than Worrall most certainly would have done.

What will Christian do next?

They've had 3 really good chances, need to get tighter to their forwards.

Gibbons not marking tight enough several times and they nearly got through on goal.  Legge not as solid as usual either.

The defenders love living on the danger line at times.  Please just do the basics, rather than the flamboyant stuff, it does not work for you guys.

FT 1-1. Disappointing. Where does JA have to strengthen in the January window? Priorities seem to me to be left back and centre-mid given Oyeleke's injury record. We have to find a way to break down teams at home.

Now five points off the play-off, with one from the last nine. Let's hope we can use some of the FA Cup money to add to the squad.

We're as good as pretty much any other side on the league bar the odd shocker we're capable of having. But we just don't have enough goals in the squad to be a genuine play-off contender. I wonder if going old school 4-4-2 and starting Cullen alongside Pope might help with this, although then we obviously lose a player in midfield which can be a problem. But at Vale Park it's worth trying. Worrall and Amoo or Browne on the wings with Taylor offering legs alongside Joyce in midfield.
