Labour leadership

That's a very fair assessment.  Historical distance sometimes blurs fact. You're totally correct, it did undoubtedly become a 'battle of wits' between Scargill & Thatcher and there was only ever going to be one winner of that contest!  Ultimately it was Scargill's intransigence that mainly caused the downfall of the miners.  That together with some unanswered questions about Mineworkers Union funds that allegidly got trousered by Scargill and other Mineworkers Union leaders at the time shows just what a selfish, despicable bloke he was.

This is one of my favourite Spitting Image sketches!

What...for telling you the truths that you and all the 'leftie' lot on here.don't really want to hear?  The Corbyn socialism project was never sensible, but only ever doctrinal, that's why it will never work!

Blair, like every leader, has good aspects and bad aspects. His bad aspects are very, very large.

However, the Left's attempt to one, paint him as some form of evil war criminal, and two, dispense with all aspects of his ideology and approach to election, has been a form of public self-flagellation for 9 years.

Yes, Iraq was a disaster and is a stain on Labour, Blair, and the UK. Yes, at times some other policy decisions could be questioned.

HOWEVER; he is still the only living man who beat the Tories, he is still Labour's most successful leader, he still allowed millions of people to have better lives through the Minimum Wage, SureStart centres, record investment in the NHS and Schools (which didn't contribute to the sup-prime mortgage collapse in the States, or the subsequent Global Recession).

The Tories have an equally unpopular/divisive leader in Thatcher, and yet instead of shunning her and her ideology, and her approaches which brought such success, she is venerated, almost deified.

One day, Labour will wake up and realise that Blair and Brown, despite massive flaws, achieved a massive amount and they could learn a thing or two about actually achieving something politically from them; moderation, pragmatism, a broad church, appealing to all, good leadership, clear campaigning/marketing.

Does anyone else find it quite strange that Mr Hobblesworth who was so vociferous in his support and praise of Jeremy Corbyn all through the general election campaign, has now suddenly gone totally silent on the question of the next Labour leader?  Perhaps he's just hoping for a Lazarus-like re-awakening of Jezza and his socialism project?  Whatever his views, it would be interesting to hear them now!

Someone else has recently appeared in his place ? Or could it be.......

I agree with much of that although Wilson won 4 elections and would perhaps qualify as most successful leader, in quite trying circumstances.

Is he another traitor in the eyes of the Left. How we could do with a leader like Blair now.  Instead we have been stuck with a useless protest leader, who has still kept his Communications team and has not had the decency to personally   apologise to all the Labour MPs who lost their jobs because of him and his inner circle.

Shouldn't you BoJo fans be sitting at home keeping your fingers cross that your hero doesn't make an almighty cock up of his Premiership!

You misunderstand the viewpoint of a lot of people on here, Bill.  Just because we were appalled at the thought of a lying rat like Johnson becoming Prime Minister doesn't mean we embraced Corbynism.  It was actually a dreadful reflection on the modern state of politics that the choice was between those two.

Much better I feel, than watching Corbyn et al make "an almighty cock-up" of letting down and abandoning the working-class traditional Labour voters.  At least Boris now has the chance of governing, something that will inevitably elude Labour unless it changes direction (away fron far-left) pretty quickly.. Unfortunately for you, I suspect that's not going to happen any time soon!

Thankfully there were sufficient former Labour voters willing to give Boris the chance.  I suggest you do the same and let's see what happens.  As you know, I'm not Boris's biggest fan, but logically he has to start to make good the promises he is giving to the former Labour voters who have 'lent him' their vote.  He will be silly if he doesn't stick to his pledge of leading a One Nation Conservative government and looking after those people caught in the benefits trap.  Social welfare in all its forms needs to be at the heart of his upcoming policies.

That's too obtuse for me....please do spill the beans?

There is a salt mine in Winsford. Think they mine salt 800 feet underground. I once went down there in a tiny bumpy cage which took a few minutes to reach the bottom. There are many miles of tunnels leading up to the working salt face which can be blasted or cut.
