Askey says that having Crookes back will be like a new signing! 🙄

I'm not in the business of slagging our players off, but give him a bit more time to recover John. Like, until the end of the season.

Crookes get a hard time and it's a bit unwarrented in my opinion.

Although I would keep Monty there whilst Worrall and Amoo are both fit.

I'm more than happy to wait until the summer for any incomings, as long as none of the better players leave that is. A new contract for Smith/Gibbons/Burgess/Worrall and the Taylor deal until the end of the season and I'm happy.

I think this close season will be better than last. The club's reputation seems to be being restored after being dragged through the mud by the previous owner. We have the money from City/Robbie (I'm not advocating we blow it all on players by the way). We will, hopefully, have a top 10 finish to convince prospective players that we could challenge next year.

My only worry is; how much money, will we make from the Robbie show? With all the things that needs to be done at VP, especially the Lorne Street, how much money will be left? And with it being a charity gig, I doubt there will be much profit left...

So how much will the budget for next season improve, if at all?

Crooks is a slightly below average defender for a League 2 club; he'd probably start regularly at centre half or left back for the teams at the bottom end, or in National League sides.

He's still young so the criticism of him in my view is excessive, but that's the case with any player who isn't good enough. They become, literally, one of the worst footballers of all time.

Yeah agreed. If Monty had a knock and Crooks had to play a few games I'd have no issue with it. If Monty has a bad run of form and JA thinks that Crooks is the best option, likewise.

I don't think we have any glaring holes in the squad, it's about efficient and sustainable improvements now.

I keep seeing on Twitter people claiming a left back 'is a must'.

It would be nice to get a specialist in but the priority is still the forward line for me.

I see Danny Rowe of Fylde has gone to Oldham; a risky move.

Not sure. My guess, based on nothing in particular, is Robbie will be funding much of the improvements himself.

Crookes has had a hard press on here. For my two penneth he is a far better defender than Monty. However he gets a nose bleed when he crosses the halfway line and tends to chicken out of putting a cross in or trying something. He is better suited to away games. No manager worth his salt would play a left back at home and a different one away. So to me we need a specialist proper left back next season. The lad from Newport will do nicely thank you.

A proper left back would enable Crookes to be a cover for Centre Half and Left back and free Monty up to be an attacking player.

Despite ( again ) having his critics Monty scored 7 in 33 games last season. Decent return and much needed goals from a wide area, This season he is yet to score in 28 appearances in a better team. That is because he has been left back.

Numerous people were saying left back was a problem in August, myself included. It continues to be so, i'm not critical of Monty at Left back but we miss his goals higher up the pitch.

PS Sorry for the use of the words Left back about 300 times 🙄

Since Montaño has been playing left back, we haven’t really seen the best of Worrall who has sacrificed his own game a bit to help protect him. A specialist left back would free up both to play to their strengths.

The Nathan Smith rumour has been dismissed by Askey. I genuinely do believe Smudge will sign a new deal with us. Getting him and Gibbo signed up is an absolute must in these next few months.

Smith is crucial as he will be 24 when his runs out, at least if we lost Gibbons we would get a fee (that said usually the tribunal sets them at peanuts!)

Considering Legge said he's been banging on the door a couple of times asking for a new deal the other day and Worrall suggesting he needs a new deal for security I am surprised neither has been done as yet.

Worrall and Amoo are both better on the right.
