Monty has done more than alright there for sure. Plus he's a threat going forward. And probably confuses the opposition. It's his best position for me, and he comes across as a lovely whole hearted bloke.

Worry for me is that he is a bit injury prone. But on current form a more than adequate LB at our level. And good entertainment value.

They are in financial turmoil.

Surely with Askey/Garlick's links we can slip them a bit of cash for a few of their better players? Archibald, Ironside, Welch-Hayes, Gnahoua, Osadebe, Kelleher are all of the right age and would add something to our squad.

Hate to be profiting from a club's demise but they're going to go bust if they don't get cash injections sharpish, which, barring a takeover, isn't going to happen unless they sell of some players before they're out of contract.

That was us a couple of seasons ago, when we lost some of our best players. Hurts to think someone else is suffering like we did.

I thought the Macc' no9 looked a half-decent player. He's the first guy I've seen this season who has actually challenged Legge effectively and consistently in the air!

I agree he looked terrific yesterday but sure i heard that was his first goal of the season from open play?  For sure that Grimsby lad was sensational that day, but not done much since.  spose it takes more than 1 good game to be a good player. sure JA knows far better than us what's needed - weather he can get them is another matter!

The number 9 looked a decent player and it was a tidy finish into the corner with some power. Would he improve us? his he better than Bennett? Also the number 7 also looked very lively when breaking forward and caused us problems. He would be a good signing. And youd hope the kind of signing Askey is looking at if we want to have a run for the play offs either this season or next. Pace and power is needed.

Siriki Dembélé

Tore us to bits. Now plays for Peterborough.

He did tear us to bits, even though small and lightweight. He came from lower tier Scottish football and is eligible to play for Scotland. Shankly always said that you needed at least one Scot in your team to win the league

I don’t want to turn PVFC into Macc but I liked the Macc number 8, Harris who was very industrious, creative, a good passer of the ball and seemed to orchestrate everything, that was good about them, plus he scored.Possibly too much like our own Super David Worrall, so not sure if we could accommodate two players with the same style of play.
Also I liked number 20, Osadebe who played up front, he scored against us at Moss Rose with an exquisite touch with his the inside of his right foot to control and in the same movement swivelled and with his left foot drilled the ball past Brown. Osadebe goal scoring record isn’t great though. Both players are out of contract in the summer.
I think we need to get our players signed up before we start bringing players in, there are also quite a few signed this season that need to be shown the door, to free up funds

Osadebe isn’t apparently going to Southend to work with Sol again.

I always like to read people's opinions as that's what this site is all about. Can't help thinking because he got a tidy finish against us people are going way overboard about Ironside.

I've had a quick gander about him. Aged 26 , non league all his career until now. He had actually lost his place until he scored a penalty as a substitute on Boxing Day against Grimsby. He has scored 4 goals this season and barely kicked a ball in anger in November because he couldn't get in the side .

Now don't get me wrong it was a nice goal but all the suggestions of him as a potential signing are way wide of the mark. Caught up in the moment of his goal. Nothing about his record or career would make me want him anywhere near our team based on one half decent goal .

Thanks but no thanks. If you can't get in Macc forward line who are one of the lowest scoring sides then he certainly doesn't get in ours .

Scored 2 of those goals against us (one in Leasing) but seems to not be that well regarded on the Macc forums. Osadebe would be a decent signing.

I Understand you totally and I’ve only seen him once but I liked what I saw and I can only go off that. He’s a decent age and I was asking would be better than Bennett as a back up coming off the bench and starting the off game?
We would all probably like better but the money isn’t there so these are the players I’d imagine Askey will be looking to sign. I’m not sure Bennett is the answer to replace Tom when he’s rested but that’s up to the manager.

Toms not getting any younger and we need someone to hit the net regular from centre forward if we are to do well next season and get in the top 7.

You are right Sandyford. You can only take at face value what you see on the pitch. We only see these players once or maybe twice if we go to the away game.

Guthrie is another case in point, he absolutely destroyed us in the 1-4 game last season v Stevenage.  He's still there plying his trade with the side at the bottom of the league .

It's very difficult and that's why a decent scouting system is important to help JA . These days the likes of Rudgie driving up and down the country to watch 4 games a week are long gone.

We've tried a couple of chancers in Angus and Hurst who has gone back to BPA on loan . Hopefully he'll turn out to be a prospect for the future.

Every team needs goalscorers, they are gold dust. The problem is in the main they cost big bucks and I am sure we all don't want to see silly money signings .

I'd hazard a guess though that if Eoin Doyle was at Vale instead of Swindon it is us who would be top of the league . We haven't been clinical enough to put teams to the sword. A clinical finisher has to be our number one priority in pre season .

Just a terrace rumour on Saturday that Forest want a six figure sum for Jake Taylor, does anyone think we should continue our pursuit of Jake, or is it a step too far. I don’t want C&K spending all the FA cup money on one player. I am a big fan of Jake and would like him to stay but not at the detriment of our budget for players. If we do push the boat out, I can’t see that there should be a sell on clause as well.

As anyone heard anything to the contrary or have heard the same

I'd go 75k tops with a sell on in Forests favour. Taylor is a little gem but we don't want to put all our eggs in one basket.

If ( big if ) Manny got full fitness a midfield of him ,Joyce and Burgess looks okay to me.

Would love Taylor to sign but we don't want to be held to random.

I would suggest that's fairly realistic? And I'd be happy to see him at the Vale for that price, even if he were to be the only cash transfer we make! We would probably be looking at loans / small fees anyway, so securing one player of Taylor's class and potential wouldn't be detrimental to our planning, I don't think?
