What would you do with Burslem?

Doha just linked to this article

https://unherd.com/2019/11/stoke-the-city-that-britain-forgot/

and I was grabbed by this paragraph:

Of all the places I visited in Stoke-on-Trent, Burslem was the most distressing. I remembered a lively little town with grand 18th-century and 19th-century buildings. The buildings survive but are mostly empty. Burslem has become a ghost town since the Royal Doulton works closed in 2005. Most production has emigrated to Indonesia.

If you had your way, what would you do to regenerate Burslem? Bulldoze? I don't think any of the politicians really give a toss about specifically looking at the place but I do think there's potential.

Years of neglect by the same politicians that you attempt to promote. Six years of Ruth Smeeth in the seat and her top agenda finding is that Burslem has one atm and no free cash points.

I can count her appearances to speak in the commons on one hand as the same with Snell. Both sniverling holderson parasites who purport to represent people here when they in reality do very little.

Come back with an opposing argument and sell to me how Smeeth has worked on improving her constituents life chances and quality of life. There is no evidence whatsoever that she has. Time for change...vote the Brexit party MP in the General election

You actually had me agreeing till you mentioned voting for a party who literally haven't the foggiest idea of how to be politicians.

Anyway, if it was up to me I'd offer a lot of incentives to get creative businesses into the area. It's well known that get the artists in and they build the area up. All the <ovf censored> areas that are now gentrified came up with the help of artists.

This is the problem with Burslem,

Doultons gone

Maddocks gone

Sadlers gone

William Boultons gone

Tizer gone

Ind Coope gone

William Boultons gone

Midwinters gone.  Plus many many more. And it's all the fault of Ruth Smeeth?????

And it will all be rectified by voting for the Brexit party.  Unbelievable you must be in Cuckoo land.

There are Victorian buildings and an artistic heritage to build on, hasn't Prince Charles taken an interest in the past?

look above ground floor level and Burslem is mightily impressive in my view. I agree with Emile, get the creatives in with incentives, a few subsidised micro potbanks. Reduce the number of low end businesses. Improve public transport to the centre. No way raze it to he ground, a lot of the architecture is fantastic.

I lived in Birmingham for a a while and I often looked at the Jewellery Quarter and thought Burslem could be turned into something similar on a smaller scale. Apartments and homes then some bars pubs food places such as restaurants, coffee shops. Give it a different vibe make it feel like something is happening, get those apartments in there and watch it grow.
