True, but he's not very good. Not been one of our worst players to be fair. But that is a low bar.

Its still a higher bar than the the back up players we had last season, this game was dead rubber, pleased we got through and a bit of pocket money going into the club.

Thought the two lads on debut had alright games, as did Cullen.

It a difficult to read alot into a game like this given that these lads have likely never played together. However I think the lads in the match day squad will sleep safe tonight knowing there is slim to no chance of them being dislodged any time soon.

One real concern I have is at left back, I really like Evans in the middle and think he could do a great job if we ever get an injury to Joyce, but he isn't a full back and I really hope that Askey recognises that we need real cover in both full back areas in January. Outside of Monty and Gibbo we're struggling.

Job done, key players rested. Another 10k in the bank. Thought the keeper, Brisly Cullen, and even Kennedy did alright. And Super Ryan Lloyd.

The whole thing had the feeling of a reserve game. But you can only play what is in front of you. Nice one Vale!

The blonde Newcastle attacker Jack Young and Sangare looked decent for them, might be worth looking at seeing if we could get one of them on loan or certainly keeping tabs.

Maddison, Cullen and Brisley were the best, Kennedy was almost as good except for letting their dwarf score their goal - he really should have been able to out jump the little guy and it was a real reserve team match with all the passion of some one about to make love to a 22 stone woman because he lost a bet.   And to cap it all the opened the Hamil end for 23 Fans - What was wrong with the disabled stand .... Or the play school stand , the one with the round and square windows in the closed section of Lorne street . Christ it would have been cheaper to give em two of the Boxes that were not used.

Mark Cullen done his chances no harm at all, both goals really well taken.

Totally agree, is he top scorer now? Given the amount of time he’s had on the pitch, that’s a great return.

Also Bennett is on a bit of a barren spell so I would swap Bennett for Cullen.

Maddison good. Reasonable back up.

Brisley is 3rd choice CB, then Kennedy a distant 4th.

Cullen full of running and two goals; worth a bash up top. Scores pretty much every time he starts, despite offering little else.

Nice to see Conlon back; him and Atkinson provide some genuine competition for Taylor and Burgess to keep up their recent levels.

Not much else to say. Atkinson and Evans will do the cliched 'job' at fullback.

Newcastle had some decent players and managed to get in the box far more than most youth sides.

1 loss in 10, £50,000 made in the last 4 days and progression in two cups. Fringe players get a run out. Decent 10 days work from Vale.

Need to follow this good run up with 8/9 points from the next 4 games; Carlisle, Scunny, Walsall, and Crawley. If we play like we did vs Crewe/Dons/Bradford, we should be right in the play off mix ahead of the Christmas fixtures.

Some fans are giving Askey some stick here. Not sure what they were expecting from this 11.

I heard one old man cry 'Come on Askey, this is sh**' with disgruntled tremors whenever the ball went backwards.

This was a dead rubber game in a competition we had already qualified for the next round in, playing a group of teenagers already knocked out, with 11 changes, after beating MK Dons and Crewe away, and STILL people found time and energy to have a good moan.

Absolutely baffling.

But not surprising. Good old Vale.

We did alright. Agree with the rest. Shout out for Ryan Lloyd. Did alright.

He's actually nowhere near as bad as people make out when you play him in the middle.

As stated before, the lad isn't going to be starting every league game but when you do need to give lads a rest and want someone who will work hard, be on naff all wage, and won't moan when he's not in the squad and probably contribute to the hard-working and tight knit group we've got, he's hardly the walking disaster people wail about.

Thought he had an alright game in fairness! Does anyone know if it was him that played the assist for the 2nd goal? I thought it was him but the vale twitter credited Taylor with it? Either way it was a good pass
