Match Thread: FAC1 Milton Keynes v Port Vale

Not surprising as some of us have been saying since the end of last season that left-back is a weak link when Crookes is there, and that we need better - that's not intending to be a nasty dig towards him as he clearly gives his all, but he just looks unsuited and uncomfortable at left-back.
The worry is that Askey seems to regard him as his preferred first-choice at left-back, and will put him straight back in when fit again.

After a straight 3 clean sheets and no goals from open play in 5 games he would be on some serious mind bending drugs to put Crookes straight back in . Monty has been terrific

Madison
Evans Kennedy Brisley Hurst (unless Bradford PA are playing)
Atkinson Conlon Lloyd
Browne Cullen Archer
Pretty strong team and complies with the competition rules - Browne, Cullen, Atkinson, Conlon and Brisley have all started more than 40 first team games. Hopefully enough to get a result.
Not sure Hurst is a right back. Maybe swap Hurst for Conlon, Evans at right back and maybe RCG if he's allowed to at LB.

Other than that I whole heartedly agree, rest as many players as possible

Just listened to JA and he is so grounded and tells you as it is.  Great to listen to it and as he said - "the team is now knowing how to play as a team.  But there is still things that need to be improved on and they know this".

Grounded. Spot on.

In all seriousness, today is testament to how far Askey has taken these players in 6 months.

We've beaten a team in a division higher with relatively no stress and its still the worst of our last 3 away performances. We should have been 2-0 up at HT and have the game finished with.

We come to every game with a plan and a chance of winning and that's far more than we can say for every game since Page left over 3 years ago.

Montano is a left back, and was class again. Gibbons MOTM. Worrall superb, as was Joyce and the centre halves (as per).

We restricted them to a few long shots and some decent crosses, some lovely play on the edge of the box without really testing Brown. Bennett (who looks miles off form) missed a sitter on the stroke of HT and Taylor/Amoo had reasonable chances in the second half.

Bennett has been unlucky with his header cleared off the line vs Crewe and missing a golden opportunity today so maybe the goal is coming and his confidence gets back to what it was earlier in the season. Amoo look disinterested but (I think) set the goal up so maybe that's job done.

We've lost 1 in 10, not conceded from open play in 5, unbeaten at home, beaten Crewe, Bradford, and MK Dons away, beaten 3 of the top 4 of League 2, play some relatively attractive football, have seen immense improvement in every player, play several players on the right side of 23, sit 10th in a League most were happy to take 15th in, with 2 points off the playoffs with a favourable run up to Christmas, in the 2nd round of the Cup, likely to progress in the Leasing, and for the first time in years come to games talking about football, looking forward to football, and winning games of football.

Not bad for a reduced budget and making lazy signings on the cheap, and keeping too many players who struggled last year.

Up the mighty Shanahans and Askey.

When I heard the 1st round draw, I remember thinking "Oh well, it's unlikely we'll get past that, away to a League 1 team - we can focus on our league position". I am now genuinely excited for Monday at 7pm to see who we get in round 2.  Great result, great teamwork, great spirit. Well done lads, you keep making my weekend.

Exactly... still makes my p*ss boil that there were fans on here saying that Scumthwaite should be left alone and not harassed! How stupid they look now! Rest assured it will not be forgotten!

Carol and Kevin are the saviours of our club, and what’s magic is they recognise is as OUR club. They truly want to make it a better place for the fans and the community!

Just let it go- he’s not worth your time

But.... but... but... one of his cheapest, low risk signings hasn’t been what he hoped ... it’s just not good enough! 😂

JA... making people look stupid. And keeping them quiet most Saturdays!

Don’t worry moaners... There will be a result soon that not perfect... you can have your moment again then!
