Sadly Geo, Labour has been doing a good job of splitting itself wide open post Blair, and unless it reinvents its identity to regain the political heartland it will always remain an 'also ran' in UK politics.

It's extremely sad mate. It's the only party I have ever voted for untill losing faith. I never liked the Tories winning but accepted it as inevitable but dreaded big Tory majorities that gave them carte blanche as in the Thatcher years.

Oddly I don't think Boris will take us down that road but that may well be my hope overriding my fear.

The scarey bit, for me, is that if Boris delivers in the areas that lent him there votes he could decimate Labour for decades... on the other hand if Labour just assume their traditional following in those areas will simply revert back they could destroy themselves.

At the moment Labour seem to be blaming everything on everything else but themselves..... brexit, weather, lies, press etc etc I'm surprised someone hasn't blamed boris's dog.... if jezza was ok, the policies were good, the groundwork got thousands out to vote, the campaign was good etc how come they got hammered?  Oh yes it was brexit, the result they vowed to honour in the previous election but rejected in this one.... that was their choice. Let's ignore what campaigners and the public told them on the doorstep, let's blame everyone else.... I expect more of the same.

If the withdrawal agreement passes by the end of January and we have left the EU and an Indy ref 2 takes place in February which the SNP win does Scotland have to reapply for EU membership ? Do we set up hard boarders? Do we have to agree a withdrawal agreement with Scotland?

There would obviously be problems with the £ being used by Scotland.... the EU wants members to use the € (I think that's a condition of joining now) and the BofE  would have to consent and allow Scotland's finances to be run through the BofE.

I’m not as sure, Scotland would vote to leave the UK ,as Sturgeon is.Doing a jig over their results in the GE is all very well but they still only got 45% of the vote .Considering the other parties ,I very much doubt, would want to break up the union I don’t think it’s as cut and dry as she seems to think. In any case,Boris has said “No”.Scotland ,if they leave the UK,could be the next bailout case for the EU,if they were allowed to rejoin.

It will be the impact of Brexit that will determine our fortunes in the next few years.

If it goes well and we're all living in clover [as many on here claim] then Scotland could be persuaded to stay but it's a slim hope as it was very much a remain country.

If it goes pear-shaped, and the economy suffers and we struggle on our own, then Scotland will be off. It's a huge risk.

Some I guess could not care less but I believe that we are stronger together and I have always valued being part of the United Kingdom.

Problems in Ireland too I guess. And if they persist and the Scots go off on their own, what will Wales want, different scenario though that is.

Let's see.

I’m in Crawley as we speak!!  Here is one of our new Tory MPs. I trust his activities will be plastered all over the Daily Mail.

If this is found to be correct, he should be booted out of the party immediately.  There you are... clear cut and unequivocal, unlike Jeremy!

We are all stronger together but if the Scots want to go let them go.

They want their independence just like us but how they will get it by remaining in the EU is beyond me.Let them join the Eurozone as well but I dont know whether they'll still get their free tuition fees and prescriptions. They might have to negotiate for them?

Very interesting video and article in the newspaper website today. Mentions Stoke a lot.

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/video/2019/dec/13/anywhere-but-westminster-how-labour-lost-and-the-hope-that-endures-video

I notice momentum didn't ship boots on the ground up to stoke.... not inner city middle class enough to bother with I suppose... the local party did their job well enough.... perhaps not on script enough.

Were there more anti jezza failures than pro? Did momentum ship boots to anti jezza MPs? Or just pro?

Perhaps it was a secret cull...... nowt like a good conspiracy theory.... 555

If they want to go I would push them out the door.... after we have left the EU and hit them with a huge divorce agreement, don't let them use the pound and build a hard boarder with visa access only.

Would they get a consulate in the UK and vise versa?

Over 52 percent of people voted for parties supporting remain/second vote. Only 43.6 percent voted for conservatives so if thats enough for a conservative government then 45 percent is enough for a second independence vote.
