HS2 is targetted at certain areas of the country and there are huge chunks which will not benefit at all.  The cost of it is escalating by the day and the benefits will be anything other than evenly spread.  Spend the money on the NHS instead where all will benefit.

Don't agree. One of the biggest constraints on rail freight is the lack of pathways taken up by passenger services. Moving these onto HS2 would improve our transport performance as well as benefiting the environment by taking lorries off the road.

That's all well and good it you live somewhere on the HS2 "Y" but what about the rest of us?  What about the huge chunk of the country north of Leeds?  What about spending a bit of money on the infrastructure there?  Most of the A1 north of Newcastle isn't even dual carriageway yet it is a major route to Scotland.

A Corbyn premiership would herald massive income tax hikes for anyone on a salary above £80,000.

If no one changed their behaviour then the 500,000 people with income between £80,000 and £100,000 would lose an average of £400 a year

He's not 'my beloved Jeremy' as I think Labour would have a much better chance at winning if, say John McDonnell was in the hot seat. But if you criticise Corbyn for talking to terrorists you have to criticise every Prime Minister of at least the last 50 years, including Thatcher.

But Corbyn has never been a Prime Minister.

Nothing radical about funding the NHS and social services

Chuck more money at a failing product?. We already pay the 6th highest GDP in to health in the world. It needs a total change not just more money thrown at it and don’t get me started on Social Services.

Think of HS2 as a railway motorway, moving long distance traffic off railways carrying a mixture of local, freight, and long distance trains. Existing railways on the same routes  then become more effective. Liverpool and Newcastle also need a HS route via Manchester and Leeds. Adequate roads are also required in the North too, an area neglected for too long.

Well they were working much better before the Tory cuts. Anyone who thinks the standard of living in this country is better now than in 2010 needs give their head a wobble. The NHS needs a lot more funding, so does the police, so does the social services, so does the whole country. The Tories made harsh cuts while actually running up debts.  https://www.thelondoneconomic.com/opinion/tories-have-run-up-debt-in-spite-of-austerity-cuts-while-rich-have-doubled-their-wealth/24/07/

Are Labour going after millionaires or just billionaires?

Will we see the return of the infamous 98% tax rate?

How many nationalised industries have made a year on year profit?... if they don't where does the money come from to keep them afloat?

If the 32 hour week applies to everyone will that reduce the emergency services? Will it produce more jobs or increase overtime payments? Will it cover the armed forces?

If jezza won't press the button why waste money on deterrents?

If workers are given shares who pays for them?

It's slightly amusing that the British people fall for the cack spouted by all political parties when elections are called.

Money magically appears from empty coffers to buy votes and make promises to the electorate that will never materialise, homes to accommodate the homeless but not in your village or community, more in benefits, more on roads we can't afford to fill the potholes in, more doctors and nurses we can't find, more police to enforce laws we don't need and the new laws generated to protect "special" groups and a few laws that don't exist....... on and on and on and on.

A question to the big two....... if the money is there to deliver all the promises why didn't you spend it when you were in office?..... please don't blame the previous administrations failures for your inability to deliver.... and don't pretend your financial inability will raise the money needed because you know it won't..... the only way to finance the promises you make is to borrow more, a lot more, probably more than we can afford to repay.

The NHS has been out dated since I remember, it has got worse and worse through all Governments, Blair came full of promises to save the NHS yet it got worse with an extra budget ending up with more white collar workers costing a fortune. Keep throwing money at it and hope it gets better, it won’t.
