Killing Games Off

It was only recently that we all were suggesting Vale were due to give a team a good hiding as we were pressing opponents and actually creating good chances throughout games.

However we have lost our mojo recently and appear to be coasting through games and by the final whistle they all look shattered, even if they seemingly have had a stinker of a game and looked lethargic!

Frankly we do not possess enough guile, nouse, brains or talent in our squad for us to control games and indeed finish off opponents.

I fear that we are slinking back into a team that is happy to be mid table or thereabouts after such a torrid couple of seasons and in the main most of us would have settled for that before a ball was kicked this season.

Have we set too high a standard for our heroes? Should we sit back and "enjoy" mid table? My own opinion is that  we are indeed a Club slowly rising from the absolute depths and we will need to galvanise ourselves into expecting more frustrating times ahead, BUT with a difference of not looking over our shoulders at the bottom 2 or 3 teams.

Patience is not a word associated with Valiants unfortunately but somehow we have to give a bit of slack at present and back the Club to the hilt in the hope that time and the current owners will be able to deliver us some modicum of success. KTF.

We haven't been pressing as a team. Most players have pressed individually at different stages in games but only Worrall has shown the required energy levels and work rate consistently.

The back four (especially Legge and Smith) give the ball back to the opposition constantly throughout every game which puts constant demands on the front six players to go and win it back.

That is the main reason why we always concede and never keep clean sheets. If Legge and Smith would head it to a Vale player rather than just clearing it anywhere then we'd  retain much more possession and wouldn't have to work quite so hard at winning the ball back all the time!

The nicey nicey owners and Management are allowing the players to pick up their wages without much effort on the pitch.Perhaps Nasty Norman was right to give them a rocket to get a reaction and make them earn their money.

We have dropped back to Aspins one up front with no support.

The pressing game has been replaced with score then sit back and let them come at us.

Micky would have put them all on the transfer list after the last two games.

Still struggling to say something positive about the Vale , and still spouting the usual sarcastic drivel.

Remind me again, as I’ve forgotten, how did we get on during the last three seasons of ‘Nasty Normand’ reign of terror? Did the players earn their money?
