In my opinion mate, Smith and Legge are fine at CB. Our problem is more at full back and a system that defends as a team.

The problem positions aren’t at CB. Smith was one of the few who played Ok on Saturday, where our midfield didn’t offer enough either defensively or in attack.  Legge gave the ball away for one of the goals.

Brisley may well deserve a chance but not just yet.

Brilliant idea... revert to the formation that has delivered us our two shockingly bad, dog turd performances this year.

Ignore the successful unbeaten run at home playing 433... experimenting vs Macc went so well we should do it again.

We should win but we can’t take things for granted. I thought we struggled against Morecambe until their player needlessly got himself sent off. I hope the players realise that they let themselves and more importantly the fans down at Macc.

i hope I’m not expecting too much when I’d like all three points and a crowd north of 5k. Having read Bidduloh PV, GTC they’re probably going to be more accurate that what I’m hoping for.

Can anyone tell me if we’ve actually put the same starting 11 in consecutive games.? For some reason I think we have but only the once.

Their attitude and work rate needs to be far, far better than it was on Saturday. There was only really Smith, Woz, Joyce and Pope who looked anything like what was required at Macc. The others were all very complacent and it cost us. We made a very poor team look reasonable. Hope we are much more up for it against cheating Stevenage.

Play Bennett up front with Archer supported by Amoo and hopefully Montano. These are the four who will form a consistent understanding and prolific mix  upfront.

Get the formation right 4.3.3 and attack attack attack. A win therefore will come 4-1

How do you know when you only listen to it on Radio Stoke.

My view is that Smith has been around the centre back positions for the last 3/4 years. During that time we’ve not exactly been water tight have we?

How many goals has Smith got in total? I’d guess he averages less than 3 goals a season.

I’m not saying Legge is better than Smith or vice versa but Legge’s got more physicality which is important in this League.

The fact remains that we simply aren’t defending properly, how many times have we taken the lead and lost it or folded late on under a bit of pressure? We need to try something different in defence.

4-3-3 for this one all the way, get back to a formation that we know we can play, because frankly we looked clueless all over the pitch yesterday like we weren’t sure what we were supposed to be doing and hoofing a long ball into channels for forwards doesn’t work for us.

gibbons - Legge - Smith - crookes

atkinson - Joyce - taylor

worrall - Bennet or Pope - Amoo

I just don't get why Askey changed it up to be honest. We usually look to play high, with width, and he plays a diamond.

I understand the need to have a backup system to switch to, but the Macc game was there for the taking and would have given us real momentum, sitting in 8th, rather than being stuck in a glut of teams and 2 points above 19th...

A swift return to winning ways against a badly struggling team is required.

I'm afraid I don't buy this story that it's about the players being poor and not the system.

I get that there has to be a party line, but, for me, Askey got it horribly wrong on Saturday and should be saying so.

I think he's been tinkering with systems and needs to go back to what works.

His early season tactics produced the goods, I'd like to see them again.

Whilst I agree with comments about the system and feel the manager got it wrong some of the players were rank poor. If you can't pass a ball to a player in your own team it doesn't matter what the system is. Bad performance in every aspect but they happen.

Fair point.

However, having a regular pattern helps this.

Gibbons, for example, is used to a particular way of playing and his usual outlets were not available on Saturday. Consequently he had a nightmare.

I do think we would benefit from some stability.
