Fine

That comes with the territory of running a football club. There could be fines for too many bookings, there could be crowd trouble we get fined for, extra police bills etc. What if one of our players got done by a horror tackle and everyone kicked off? That’s football, stuff happens in a game.

True.

How much is a yellow card these days? At the level I played at, if you got booked you used to have to send a fiver off to the County Showground.

I went in front of Staffs FA at the CSG a few years ago for a disciplinary - league secretary, opposition secretary all present and all said that I had no case to answer.  Verdict £120 fine and 3 point deduction, you couldn't make it up.

The money goes to the FA.

Bad idea IMO to decide to fine individual players. In this case Gibbo had a go at their lad for diving, he got up and grabbed Gibbo round the throat, Popey came in and then grabbed him as the majority of the side came in and starting a bit of a pushing and shoving match. Flashpoints like this will always happen in football at any level, but it’s important not to lose the togetherness of the squad. I can understand a fine if someone started it was a head butt or something stupid like that, but not how this played out.

One thing you can't do in this league is allow yourselves to get intimidated or bullied so I completely understand why we would stand our ground in this situation, even if it means repercussions further down the line. I don't know if it happens much in football but in rugby a lot of teams normally have a code word to pile in..

I understand the togetherness aspect and that tempers can become frayed. However were not in a war zone where you need the support of your comrades and it’s not a life threatening situation again where you rely on ppl on your side to protect you as they will rely on you at sometime.

Brian Clough used to fine players for ill discipline (yes that was a long time ago), but the punishments still remain the same. I tend to find that the top teams in the leagues have quite good discipline. This will be because players always want to play when things are going well and I think we could be included in a top team in our league. We win when we don’t play that well and I’ve not seen a team that’s given us a lesson in football.

Yiu can’t legislate for players missing through injury, but players suspended for ill discipline, you can.

I think one of the strong points of the top teams is their togetherness and the ability to be able to mix it and not be intimidated during a game too. Forest had it back then, thw Liverpool’s sides as, so did the early wenger side, as did Fergie utd too. Reality is that those incidents like the one at Orient are a lot of nothing, if the ref brandishes a card for diving then the incidents diffused straight away.

Ninety nine. Not that I'm advocating such actions of course.
