A super following deserves a super display. We are finding the net from a variety of feet and heads, changes forced on us due to injuries have accelerated options, combinations and formations. No games are easy in L2 for various reasons but I am hopeful of a 3-1 victory, now we have more options forecasting the team is more interesting too. UTV

I think we’ll stay 4-3-3 and I’d like to see us go:
brown
gibbons Legge Smith crookes
atkinson joyce taylor
worall Pope amoo
Yeah, I think that will be how we set up.

Given the two teams form going into the game and Macc's off the pitch problems, it should be the perfect time to record our first away win.

Disappointed that I didn’t get a ticket for this.

Will Crewe next month be two per season ticket holder as well?

Yes it most likely will be. I'm not a season ticket holder so I'm having to miss games like Salford macclesfield and crewe and go the places nobody wants to go to like colchester and Bradford.

Extra incentive for Macc in that they will go above us if they win, but this is one of the away games that we should be looking to win. Getting on the front foot from the first whistle, possibly with both Pope and Bennett up front, should help Vale to return home with the 3 points.

Just checked soccer stats and found that Macc have a decent enough home record with only one defeat in six:

Macclesfield P6  W2  D3  L1 GF7  GA4  GD+3  Pts9

Time for us to inflict a second then, with a sell out away end proving to be the 12th man.

We need to as we have the third worst away record in L2 (compared to the 2nd best home record) and a win would start to consolidate our position in the top half of the table.

If we can get our first away win here, the vibe around the place could be great. 20 points in October & possible entry into the top 7, with the bottom side to play at home straight after.

Buzzing for this, can't wait.

Macc had a good start but have tailed off lately so a chance to get a win, as said 20 points before mid October would be excellent with Stevenage and Oldham to follow in the three games after. I always say 25 points by xmas is on track to stay up which is the initial threshold to pass.

That said a point wouldn't be too bad here IF we beat Stevenage to keep the tally ticking over. We should at least have Browne fully fit and possibly Monty back along with Gibbo so some bodies back in the team.

Hopefully we can nick a win though and really set ourselves up to push on.

James Gibbons is probably one to go straight back in the team but the ones coming back may have to bide their time. Also, in spite of Tom’s goals and continuing threat, I think Bennett still gives Askey a selection headache as he changed the game on Saturday and carries a goal threat himself.

Incredibly refreshing to have multiple options & selection headaches despite numerous injuries! Atkinson could easily push for a midfield or RB starting place now, but do you drop Gibbo coming back who has been great? Would you drop Pope for Bennett given his goals, or replace one of Joyce/Burgess in midfield & move Worrall in there to accommodate Bennett up top alongside Pope?

When all players are back, there's going to be lots of competition, & the future is looking pretty bright. Quite happy with Askey's performance this season so far, just need to sort a slightly leaky defence & fix the away form with a few wins.

Totally agree on the options available to him, looking much better than it has done for a few years now.

I said in an earlier post I think Gibbo should come straight back in, he’s been too good to miss out and based on Saturday I’d be pushing Atkinson into his more natural role of midfield in place of Burgess. For me we can’t constantly rely on having 2 younger players in that midfield 3, because I think they will be hit and miss and Atkinson and Joyce have done it at this level. Burgess / Taylor / Conlon can then fight it out for the third spot or come on when we need more legs to get about.

Also if we Kept Atkinson at right back we run the risk of teams targeting that spot as a weakness because it’s not his natural position.

I also dont believe that Askey has any intention of starting a game with 2 up front either, unless he’s forced into it like we were against Mansfield.

Hard to disagree with all of that really. Line up for me Sat:

------------------Brown-------------------

--Gibbo--Smith--Legge--Crookes---

-----Atkinson---Joyce---Burgess-----

--Worrall---Bennett/Pope----Amoo--

If starting Pope, gives us the option to move Worrall back in front of Gibbo, putting Bennett up top alongside Pope later on for one of the middle 3. Taylor is a possible alternative for the midfield, him or Burgess would be fine really.
