Match Thread: Port Vale v Mansfield Town.

4-4-2 I believe but I’d imagine Cullen will probably drop back into that midfield area if they have someone who gets on the ball in that area between their centre half’s and midfield.

We've played 4231 quite a lot with Worrall behind the front man so my guess would be Cullen will drop in there. He's used Cullen that way off the bench a couple of times.

Vale get a goal - get in there Cullen.  Come on ref, blow up.

Wonder which Vale side we will see in the 2nd half.  In the paper it said Mansfield had not scored in 5 games and they seem to be running the game.

What's happened to Vale's pressing game, their players have had too much space and have been first to the ball.

Good goal by Vale, masterclass by Pope in leading the line when Vale attacked..

Thought we looked better in the last 15 minutes. They have 5 in midfield and the forward who isn't Rose is also dropping into midfield as well. Lloyd has been more central for 20 minutes and that has helped us to get some parity, although we've got no width on the left because of it. You'd fancy Amoo to have a field day running at their back 3 as they are strong but not mobile. Good goal by Cullen but he needs to do a lot more about the pitch. Pope is working hard.

We dont/can't press with the same intensity when playing 4-4-2. We were doing great at home with the 4-3-3 we were on the front foot controlling games dont know why the managers changed it to be honest. Hopefully we get the win and he's justified and I'm wrong or will he revert to 4-3-3 in the second half?

Come on boys an unlikely win from behind here and we'll be back in the top half with some good opponents got rid of.

Lots of players below par today. The game is passing Taylor by again, maybe a midfield 3 would suit him better. Poor goal to give away they split us open inbetween smith and crooks, that shouldn’t happen really. Good save from Brown and no one tracking the runner. We seem to be intent on playing ourselves into trouble on the right with Legge either giving it to Gibbo in a tight spot or Worrall or Cullen not showing for the ball down the right. Popes battled well I think, won a lot without necessarily having many players running off him.

This may be harsh but I’m going to question some players desire today, Montys got a kick and come off after less than 15 minutes, did he really try to run it off? Lloyd is going through the motions I’m afraid to say, Crooks looks to be lethargic, at times Joyce is getting nowhere near the fullbacks to link play, Taylor looks lost, Cullen can do more to show for the ball from full backs and link it from the midfield. Yet in amongst all that, you’ve got a player like Gibbons who clearly isn’t fit and isn’t going through this at 100%, (I heard today he hadn’t trained all week and then had to get an injection to play), yet he’s still put the effort in and tried  to be positive with the ball up that wing. He’s shown desire to still want the ball and even when he looked totally <ovf censored> he managed to get himself in to the box and made a positive impact, with the ball falling to Popey who did really well to dig out a cross for Cullen to score.  I really wish we had more players who would show that same desire and passion in the shirt.

Still in the dressing room by the looks of it.  Couple of yards in their half and get themselves off side.

Come on Askey, get it sorted please.  This is not the Vale we know now, seems they are lacking ideas and tired.

We are the home team aren't we?  Seems Mansfield are the team that's pressing for the win.

I like Cullen, he's had a number of clever touches and lay offs. Unlike Lloyd, my god how is he a professional footballer? Just spoiled a promising attack with a crap pass to Pope.

Ref given a penalty against the Vale now.

Come on Vale, this is not good today.

They will just pack their midfield now and Vale players will not know how to break it down.

Askey now given a yellow card as well.  Ref lost the game and will Vale finish with 11 players on the pitch and Askey in the dugout.

Obstruction is a indirect free kick isn't it?? Not a pen.

Ref's completely lost it. I'd put money on a red card for someone if I were a betting man.
