Match Thread: Port Vale v Plymouth Argyle

Since there does seem a lot of difference in this league firm up a mid table position in anticipation of a go at the play-offs, maybe ambitious but the sun is shining. Plymouth lost 1-0 at Newport so why should we not  go for a win, it is home wins that build a league position. The Archer injury situation does not look  promising, but at least we have more choice this season.. Taylor to make a return, with a better chance to play football on a pitch with short grass. .Not sure what to make of the Plymouth/Bury coalition but go for it Vale

It a shame for Archer and a pity for the team, as he offers us a lot more up front, with his pace and strength. For me if he is able to play, I would play Taylor instead of Conlon and Cullen instead of Bennett. I am a person who is reluctant to change especially if the team are doing well. I think we have individuals now that make the opposition think and have to change their normal style of play, to manage our players. I’ve read that the Newport County left back normally supports attacks but with Amoo he had to play a more defensive role which is a positive sign for us. Plymouth will be up there at the end of the season, they’re just having a bit of a blip at the moment so it’s a good time to play them. I think that we’ll need a combative midfielder to play against Danny Mayer, who I believe is the best player in league two.

I don't what game everyone else was watching on Saturday but I thought Vale were awful. We had no idea going forward, we were no better at the back. Newport didn't look all that good either. I would like to think that it was a one off but having watched the game v Cambridge I feel that we dragged Newport down to our level.

My concern is that a good team will thump us 4-0. I hope we win and hope to be proved wrong. I just think we are terrible going forward so can't see us scoring. I will take 1-0 but fear it will be bad.

Love how the negativity has spread to the other side of the world

Don’t think playing Cullen up front on his own is going to work.

We are at home and need to attack them from the start.

Maybe Cullen and Bennett or  Pope.

But Askey will play one up front as usual.

Plus Taylor in for Conlon unless Manny is miraculously fit to play.

Melbourne has a point. We weren't very good in a scrappy game vs Cambridge and we weren't very good in a scrappy game vs Newport. It's called L2 and we got 3 points from the two close fought low quality games. Which will do for now. That's life in L2. We are not Man City.

I think now is time for a bit of change though. See what a couple of squad lads can do. Replacements in for Crookes and Conlon.

The performance level needs to go up a few notches as folk will lose interest as it will be said same old .

Team well we are at home so you would expect see a go for it line up .

Id shake it up a bit I think in games like these you have to think about how you can be the better side throughout.

So team for me and feel free disagree as this is fans personal feelings about who they would choose.

Brown Gibbons Legge Kennedy Montano Joyce Evans Taylor Amoo Worrall Oyeleke Pope or Cullen not fussed really as Popey if given the right service will score goals

Montano to left back with Taylor in the left half slot Evans Oyeleke and Joyce to get hold of the midfield and Gibbons and Montano todeliver from the byline quality to forwards or forward.

Why do some on here seem to fear Plymouth ?

I personally don't. They have recently been held at home 2-2 by both Salford and a poor Oldham. Also thumped in their last away game at Northampton.

These are more than beatable, are they going to be top 7?  More than likely and they may not of hit top gear yet. However I am more than hopeful of a win here and so should everybody else.

Conlon dropped for whoever takes the eye in training out of Evans or Taylor and the conundrum up front. Personally i'd stick with Bennett.

Home win on the cards.

12 players that mate, & Manny won't be fit either.

Strange you have left out Smith who is probably one of our best defefenders.
