Couldn't make the game today, but certainly feeling more positive about this season. Team seems more settled, nice that there was no panic after the Grimsby scoreline, and we have the belief that we're better than a lot of teams in this division. If this were last season or the season before I'd be relieved only one team goes down. Not this season though - I'm confident we can maintain this start and challenge for the top half/lower playoff positions...

Clean sheet achieved, probably only two scares a header in the first half, and the near certain header in the closing minutes. Perhaps our fortunes are changing, last season we could have lost to instances like those. Overall we ground out a result, had more chances but mainly  shots lacked power or were too close to the keeper. Either Worrall needs to vary his corners or the keeper needs to be blocked on the line to be effective.

Anyone think the ref was atrocious, again? The officials we get at Vale truly are diabolical, week in, week out.

He was another new ref in his first season in the league.  That idiot we had against Northampton was a new one as well, as was the bloke against Grimsby last week.

It’s the sort of game His Excellency John Rudge used to call “nip ‘n tuck”. When we have a good season it’s made up of a small number of memorable cracking performances and lots of games like that. I’m strangely encouraged by that performance that we might have a better season than I’ve been expecting.

The common theme between them all is that they were too quick to blow the whistle and kill the game. Theres loads of stuff they can let go and keep the game moving. It’s like they have to make an impression on the game, when in reality it’s not about them.

I think there are individuals in the squad now that have the ability to enable us to finish in the top half of the table. We weren’t great today and lacked imagination against a really poor team. Their defence looked quite tall made up of slow players. It was the sort of game where we should have made better use of Amoo and Montana, unfortunately Montana seems to have a problem delivering the ball into the area. The jury for me is still out on Bennett. I can’t fault his effort if closing defenders down when they have the ball and pass it around amongst themselves, but question if that is all he is good at. Why when we get a free kick around the opposition area do we still float it into the back post, we never alter it. The players jog off to the far post, no one comes wide which will commit one of the opposition players or god forbid we could take a short free kick. So IMO good result but average performance at best. Can’t wait to see Archer leading the front line

Thought Askey got really lucky today. That's not a moan by the way but they were changing players to try and win it whereas we did all. Lucky win v a poor team but it's a win.
Changed players but not the tactics Cambridge were rubbish just put 7 players behind the ball at least we were trying to win the game they didn't have a single shot on target

Yes. He's more mobile than Pope, but not as good at holding the ball up. Started brightly today but then often drifted out of the game. But then in the mixer for the goal. I guess it is the same as we say about many of our players. If they were the finished article they would not be at Vale.

The way I saw it was that only one team upped the tempo to try and win the game in that second half and it wasn’t Cambridge. I think our change in putting Taylor on for Monty made us more dangerous as it freed up Worrall who had a much better go at their right back than Monty had done in the second half.

Thought Taylor was tidy when he came on.

Same here. He did well, and it was quite a bold change to bring him on I thought. How many loan centre midfielders have we had from u23 clubs recently that haven’t worked out. I bet Callum Guy was the last one that looked like he would fit in.

Idiots on here. Waste of time. 'The kit doesn't look quite so white under grey cloud' Sort it out Vale. 'The nets in the goals are too thick, couldn't see' Sort it out Vale. 'Shadow of railway stand is not parallel to the touchline' Sort it out Vale. 'I couldn't piss in my usual corner,' cause some <ovf censored> was there before me'. Sort it out Vale. 'We didn't win 6-0, fuxing shuite' Sort it out Vale. So embarrassing.
