Match Thread: Grimsby Town v Port Vale

Recommended Posts

Thank goodness I broke my ankle wednesday or I would have been there instead of listening on ifollow.  They have just not turned up today and they can't cope with Grimsby's direct play.

Oh well - next game will be here soon.  Wonder if Askey and Co will be making the Vale players watch horror movies (todays game) tomorrow.  Don't deserve a full rest day.

Wonder if the players actually practice set pieces and how to defend against them.  They must do - tongue in cheek.

Askey and Co wont be happy with them tonight.  Are the players thinking they are better than they are and dont have to turn up maybe.  How they placed against FGR and today.

Could be worse - could support Sjoke lol.

We all like a laugh at Stoke but 5-2 is no joke - carry on like this for a few games and we will be in more trouble than they are.

Just about to set off for the journey back. Briefly, midfield awful and forwards offered nothing. No wonder our defence were under the cosh second half.

Don't think Asley and Co will put up with today's performance and the players need to have a good luok at themselves and their performances today.

The shunters loose as well.

We are a team that is developing, but today has shown they need to develop quicker.  As you say, a couple of these and the pressure will be put on the staff to change results.

Will there be a Manny style midfielder being lined up maybe now.

Don't want to knock Vale players, but was worried about bringing Lloyd back, after other managers did not play him and he left.  Was it a case of:

  • He's cheap.
  • He's local.
  • I want to promote young local players that are cheap and I know him.

Just hope he suddenly finds his football boots and proves us all wrong and he turns out to be the dogs dodars and a prem club come in and buy him for mega millions - but that beer wont do that in this case.

5-2 flattered them but no doubt they were the better team overall.

Our weaknesses were sorely exposed, midfield not strong enough and the bench lacking in quality and experience.

Careful mate you’ll get shot on here for saying strong words like awful. Haha. Safe journey

could have been double figures.

On to the next game and quick

It was bad but nowhere near double figures bad.

Keep saying it and keep getting shot down. But it’s pretty clear we signed some absalute <ovf censored>. Two injuries and we look completely thread bare. That midfield today was as bad as when it was tongue Kay and bloody Pugh in there. Defensive horror show of set plays. Really bad performance in every aspect that. And yes. Lloyd looks out of his depth (by a long way)

Summed up well by Phil on Grumble and more grumble.  Hope we learn from this game and the players learn that they need to put a shift in each time they put the shirt on.

The reality is we have the same manager with the same players(bar one) as the team that finished 20th last year. We have the same points as we did this time last year and have conceded more goals.

When your back up midfielder/winger is Ryan Lloyd, then how much more can we do after one of the first 11 is injured.

Today was hopefully a wake up call for askey, we need quality additions in midfield and defence.

Askey keeps saying he is looking at players to bring in and the time is not right yet.  Think today's game proves the time could be very right now with players picking up injuries.  Bring in a bit of quality maybe that know their jobs in midfield and can run it.

I hope so. This is all coming from midfield: no Manny, no Montano and then, when Worrall goes off, we concede two more. I said in pre-season that the midfield was going to be key because, self-evidently, that's where games are won and lost. Instead, we've under-recruited. Lloyd and Burgess simply aren't good enough. So you're right - and if we don't get more quality, we'll pay the price with performances like this one.
