Boxes and Sponsorship.

Just the way things are these days. Anytime something controversial happens there is a backlash, then there is a backlash to the backlash.

Sorry, but this is making an issue of a total non issue!

I haven't tried the lounge at Vale. But when, once in a while, I get invited to dine in the lounge area, at my Danish team Brondby, everyone is in nice clothes! The men has nice pants, a nice shirt or polo on. The women has a nice dress or the like on. Even kids and teenagers, are dressed nicely. And it's not written down anywhere! They are sponsored by everything from major banks and international companies, to the local butcher or plumber. And believe you me; some of them are paying more for their sponsorship, than the Shanahans paid for the Vale! But yet, everyone just makes an effort to dress nicely, as it's just common knowledge and implied, that the lounges are the nice part of the stadium, and you dress accordingly.

It must be slow on news at Vale, if this can course a stir...

DV you may have noticed by now that there are some among us who like to moan and in the absence of anything such as a self interested owner to moan at they will pick something else, in this case a seemingly reasonable request to wear suitable clothes, My advice is ignore them..

they dont go as a one off, corporate is all sold out.

People have disagreed, hence why decision put on hold subject to discussions with the sold out corporate areas

Thank you for making me aware of this. I thought some seats would be for birthdays.

Personally I still agree with a dress code, but that is just my opinion

Well said that man. If you want to go dressed like a Ragtatter go back of the goal.

Please don’t decry us “Ragtatters” behind the goal, Jeff Kent will have plenty to say about this effrontery in his next book.

Kindly note that our outlandish attire is merely an outward display of our solidarity with our VIP cousins, that they too have the freedom to dress as they please whilst enjoying their corporate hospitality.

We may not be preening peacocks behind the goal but remember this, wherever we sit as fans we are all one, inextricably bound by the same intangible force, the same force in fact that holds the Bycars bogs together.  🙏

Wow. Just wow. This thread represents everything wrong with Vale fans and why we'll never get anywhere or attract big numbers. So there's a (fairly relaxed) dress code for the posh seats. Some people obviously disagree with that, but rather than actually see the other side of the argument or, God forbid, asking for clarification, there's talk of protests and how it's such an awful thing to do.
Give over eh? For one, it seems sensible to me to give people who pay a decent chunk of money a higher class experience. By doing so, we may be able to attract better and bigger sponsorship. Secondly, it seems to me that the dress code allows a decent pair of dark jeans, trainers and a polo shirt or even t-shirt. Basically something even approaching smart. Thirdly, what happened to goodwill towards the owners who just paid 4 million+ to rid us of Smurf? If for that 4 million they can't make even minor changes without being threatened with protests then something is seriously, seriously wrong.
I think some people need to decide if they enjoy supporting the Vale or just enjoy moaning.
Mental, someone talking sense.

Maybe they should cordon off an area for the scruff bags who won't dress to the code? If you can't afford nice trousers then how do you afford to go corporate?

The dress code dodgers are probably the same people who think that it's okay for U21 teams to play in the FL Trophy. Scabby enough.

Has there been anyone refusing to dress to the code?

Not sure but there has been some proper whinging about it as if it's the end of the world and going to stop people going.

Just as a side note, from a very quick check on Google, the majority of clubs I've looked at (including Stoke & Crewe) all tend to have smart casual as their box dress codes (not all clubs list details though, so a few may or may not also have them). Here's just a few from all levels, didn't really wanna list the entire football league (some appear old although I doubt they've since scrapped the codes)...

Yes Tomo, smart casual is the normal in 2019

Yeah, tbh I don't really see the issue with a dress code, I went in a Vale box years ago when I was younger & there was a relatively smart code. Haven't been in any since but that's as I hate boxes personally, the entire time I wanted to be down in the stands, love it there. Have a much better time, & the atmosphere is far superior.

Way I see it though, you're paying more for a higher standard of 'day out', & I always thought it was the norm in these situations to be at least smart casual, it just suits the occasion really. I can agree that they should have sorted this earlier (or left it until next season to implement) as they'd already sold the tickets, but it seems very over the top to be completely outraged by having to wear slightly different clothes to a football match.

Tomo, I have not met or spoke to anyone who is completely outraged, refusing to go or planning a protest.

The issue was raised politely, constructively, the club email recognised this could have been thought out better

Yeah I was agreeing with you haha. Was referring to a few of the comments both on here & Facebook. I think the protest comment on here was sarcastic though, unsure.

This thread is a damning reflection of Port Vale fans and the people of Stoke-On-Trent in general.
