Can I just point out, before this thread goes any further, that despite the information posted on the Vale website in my original link, away fans were paying with cash on Saturday!!

Yeah strange this, post online everywhere that you have a cashless stadium, but then there's cash only lines for food & drink inside etc..doesn't seem to be much point trying to promote it as such if they're not following through.

Is it really that amazing that a company wont turn away trade when some customers prefer to use cash.   Its about giving the customer the Option of cash or card - there is nothing wrong with either. The new management at Vale should try one Cash only turnstile and publish that NO CHANGE IS GIVEN - That is a compromise and if there is NO DEMAND for such a turnstile then it will vindicate the existing Ticket only option.  Total No through that turnstile can be published on the score board and on the web site. Give the Fans The Choice ..... ps I dont give a sheite really as I have had a season ticket for 40 yrs but getting a season Ticket was MY CHOICE !

I get the Mastercard day rate which, having just checked is the market rate.

Geo, has anyone ever used the words "bee" and "bonnet" in describing you??!

No bee and certainly no bonnet Jean.... the thread moved from no cash at a game to no cash at all, I responded.... answered and asked questions as best I could..... I was rather curious that your bank doesn't take the opportunity to make money when it's available.

Understandable of course, just that making out they're all new-tech & completely cashless when they're not is more the strange part. They're no different to a lot of clubs in that they offer both options. It causes me no issue at all to see cash options too, just personal preference to use the technology available. Like I said before, personally I'd prefer to be able to just have contactless everywhere as it is far more convenient & quicker for all.

Having said that, I do agree that when it comes to Vale & the issues we've raised/had with the previous owner over turnstiles & ticket options, they should be looking at all options to bring in the maximum revenue possible, especially as I imagine they need the money. I don't think our club or the fan base would be in a position to go cashless any time soon.

It's a tricky one really. In principle I'm all for it. But when things go wrong without a wedge in your pocket you are screwed. When I go to England I carry cash, because the card works in some places and does not in others. This is not funds related.

I see the same thing here in NL. A lot of tourists assume they can pay by credit card everywhere. You can not. Many places do not take them. And once you are on debit card you are on a wing and prayer that it works. I've had trouble paying by debit card in DE just because the system does not connect to an NL bank account for some reason. Same in the UK.

So a wedge of notes in your pocket is the back up. So long as they are small denomination. Which are hard to get from the hole in the wall, when you can find one here.

We have a wad of low denomination cash carefully accumulated and hidden in the house. To pay window cleaners, taxi drivers, barbers....Which we keep stocked up.

Just our experience. Default is no cash. But you have to have a plan B.
