Opening day memories - good or bad ?

As another season is upon us, it got me thinking of opening days of seasons past. Some are memorable, some are infinitely forgettable. In fact I have forgotten most of them !

However, a 1-3 home reverse to Chesterfield in the late 70’s came to mind. I remember nothing about the match, except that it was the  league debut of ‘keeper Steve  Ogrizovic who went on to play a million (ish) games for Coventry.

What league opener sticks in your memory (or craw)  and why ?

Preston away 1988. I was mascot, we won 3-1 and won promotion that season.

I remember us playing Wrexham one year in the 70s, dignified by us lot getting pissed and breaking into VP to celebrate on the centre spot at midnight before the game. Whether the game lived up to expectations I can't remember.
