That is the problem in the post Bosman world. We can make nothing on players we develop these days. Unless we get lucky. But otherwise I agree with the two  of you, PV1973 and Iron Curtain.

The Premiership clubs have once again stitched us up like kippers.

The fee we get for him is easy I think. Take however many years he’s been with us from the academy and multiply it by around £25k approx (I think). There isn’t that much money to be made on young player sales these days, it’s the sell on fees that will net you the big bucks. We don’t have many saleable assets in the team really? Campbell-Gordon? Gibbons? Smith?

Gibbons is already being watched by a few league one teams so I’m told.

As an aside, how many youth players did Sexman sell to Premiership clubs (was it 1 or 2?) and did the money ever see it's way in to our accounts?
I think it was more than that to be honest, i seem to remember there being quiet a few over his reign starting with the young African lad who went to man city.

A testament to the work of Sevy Aslam and his team at the academy, we appear to have a bright young crop coming through constantly, so long as we can keep them off premier league radars!

Doesn’t surprise me, a young player regularly starting and making (I’m guessing) over 60 appearances at league two level is going to get noticed.  We had the same with Smith, I heard that in his case, league one and Scottish premiership clubs were keeping tabs on him when he broke in to the side.

Just had a little google and it looks like it was 4, Joel Ndala and Herbie James to man city, Jimmy Storer to Wolves and Luke Daley to Huddersfield.

Like the Hugill money and commercial revenues, it found its way into his back pocket.

I may well be wrong but I thought that applied whilst the player was still within the academy set-up? He's now signed a 2 year pro deal with us so isn't he worth whatever we whatever we want for him (or whatever someone is willing to pay?)

That’s a good question. I thought it counted if they were under 24.

I think they take into account playing history too...

So the award would be more of he has played some games vs no games.

This was quite a useful read:

I think the system changes when a player has turned 18.

Like Valist said, I dunno, but I always thought that only counted if a young player we have developed contracts expired. Then as long as we offer him a new contract on at least the same terms we would be due the compensation for how long he's been here and that if he moved elsewhere. If he is still under contract, couldn't we be daft enough to still turn 2 million down if we wanted to? I remember a few moans to some rule changes a few years back along the lines of something to do with teams higher up being able to nab other players easily and cheaply but I can't remember what that was.

System up to 16. I think scholarships are 2 year contracts so from 16 to 18 players are then contracted to a club.

Overview of 18 to 24.
