John on Radio Stoke

Recommended Posts

Not seen a thread on this - JA has been on radio Stoke this evenings

Summary of what he said (forgive me if I miss anything):

Happy with his squad and said that the only potential signings would be a new goalie

Looking at two keepers at the minute, Johnny madison and a keeper from forest under23s (jake something?)

Won't be signing Durrell as he already has plenty in that position (amoo Worrall browne monty)

Whitfield should be leaving

Rawlinson done enough and wants him on board

DTS is going out on loan at a higher level than leek

It's difficult to compete for players when you have a "below most in the league" budget

Hoping to bring Alex Hurst in and move him back to BPA for 6 months

Can't help but love Carol and Kevin and looks forward to working under them.

The Macclesfield gang won't necessarily be playing every game, they are there cause he knows them for the squad and "might have the potential to kick on"

Acknowledged that anyone watching callum Evans wouldn't have impressed anyone on Saturday but he hasn't played for months.

Doesnt want to sign a new lb as he has crooks and "doesn't want to hinder his or RCG's progress"

Mmmmm. I would have hoped for another midfielder if I'm honest but if we haven't got much budget left then we're unlikely to get anyone of much cop.

We have to hope that players like conlon really kick on this year and add more goals to their game. I think conlon scored a couple towards the end of the season. I recall him having an excellent game against Exeter at home last season, where he was everywhere and caused all sorts of problems for them. He got man of the match but didn't really hit those heights again.

We also have to remember that Worrall only played half a season and is a very good footballer and hopefully oyeleke will play more often than not. If the stars align we should do OK but we need luck.

I'll repeat what I have said previously, Rawlinson is ok at CH . Surely with Gibbons and Evans he will never be needed at RB again so on the occasion he features he should be good enough to cover suspension and injury.

Credit to Rawlinson as his attitude and commitment to stay have obviously swayed Askey to change his mind .

I really wonder if Askey genuinely believes players like evans, Lloyd, Kennedy, Burgess for example can push for a starting spot or if they are just squad players.

Isnt Jake Taylor a Forest U23 midfielder?

Just done a bit of research and yes he is... Askey did say he had been offered two lads to look at so maybe a slip of the tongue and Taylor (midfielder) is the other.

worth noting he plays in the same midfield as Edser who Askey said wasn’t ready.

The keeper from Forrest U23s is 6ft 6 according to the interview. It sounded to me like Ronnie Sinclair wants Madison but Askey is yet to be convinced!

Well he's going to have to make his mind up soon as in 4 days time we need a keeper on the bench at Colchester

He's not. Credit for his attitude and all that, but he really is not. Crooks is not a LB either, or not a very good one. He did okay filling in there for a couple of games initially last season but really got found out for the last few games.

So hmmm indeed. I just hope Arthur knows what he is doing and things work out.

Teams will target Crookes this season, I’m certain of it. They will know that Amoo isn’t that switched on when it comes to doing the defensive side and they’ll know Crookes isn’t a proper left back.

I agree, big things needed from Conlon and Manny in that midfield and worry about Manny’s fitness, but was really impressed by Conlon at the end of last season under Askey so hopefully he can kick on.

I think the keeper is Jordan Wright from Forest.

Yes I have a friend who supports Forest and is a regular attendee of forest development games and said Taylor has a lot of potential in him.

Been spoke about very highly by Chris Cohen ex forest player and now u23’s assistant manager.

He is most comfortable at centre midfield however is versatile, used to play for Manchester United before he signed for Forest!

He claims that he is better than Edser and has developed a lot over the last 12 months or so.

Got linked with a loan move in January 2018 but stayed at Forest
