In which local cinema did you see your first film and what was the film?

Just been to see The Lion King at the Vue in Newcastle. Why do people persist in messing with their phones when the film is on. They are asked to switch them off before the film starts but some still persist in fannying about with them.

Some people need them surgically removing..... they seem to think the off button switches off life not just a phone.

I dumped mine months ago..... I got tired of people thinking my phone was for their convenience.

I was watching a film at the cinema once and the person sat behind me not only had their phone on with the ring audible but answered it and had a conversation.

I'd love to own a cinema just so I could ban people. Talkers, eaters, late arrivers, phone users, slurpers, fidgeters - all barred. Just me, sat on my own in a huge bankrupt cinema.

I would pay to come there if the film was decent.

I remember seeing the guns of navarone at the Odeon Hanley..... first single feature I think..... it had an intermission...... and   ice cream ladies with trays of goodies.

Ah! Those were the days my friend 🙂

I used to go with friends to see all the Big Movies in Perth WA: West side Story; Lawrence of Arabia; Psycho; Ben Hur - with its cast of thousands; all with intermissions so as to spend some money in the Foyer Milk Bar; and a late night milkshake afterwards before heading into the night.

Indeed Geo, and all walk-in wide screen movies. Although Alfred Hitchcock did follow up with his own spooky TV series.

The time I saw Psycho - starring Anthony Perkins - I dawdled in the Roman Forum Milk Bar, consequence of trying to catch the eye of a young lady, that I missed the last bus home to North Perth. Still, it was only 2 miles as the crow flies so walking home it was (with images of Psycho swimming around in my mind).

It was early summer and the night air was calm and warm. But Geo, every sound, dogs barking, even the milkman on his nightly run spooked me into sprinting home 😮

It's a shame that what was once considered terrifying is now often considered lame. I can remember my dad going to see The Hills Have Eyes at the cinema and literally passing out because he was so freaked out by it. When I was younger there were (no doubt apocryphal) stories about people dying with fright whilst watching Psycho and challenges to watch The Exorcist on your own. Nowadays, they'd be greeted with a 'pfft' at best. Even Blair Witch Project and Paranormal Activity seem like films from a bygone age now.
