If the EFL have any decency and sense of fairplay, then following today’s announcement that the proposed sale of Bolton has not been completed ( shock, horror) then the Trotters should also have all their forth coming games postponed with immediate effect..

The EFL have now painted themselves into a inescapable corner, as their actions towards Bury must surely now be replicated to Bolton.

Last week Roland Dechatelet was on TalkSport talking about the EFL’s ineptitude. Whilst the Charlton, Blackpool, Bury & Bolton ownership is quite clearly the main culprit, he does actually have a point.

If the EFL do not now place the same sanctions on Bolton as they have on Bury, then all leaders of this organisation should be forced to resign tonight.

I certainly do not want to see Wanderers go to the wall, but if they are basically expelling Bury from their competition for similar offences, then surely the same must happen to Bolton.

But guess what will happen ? Sweet EFL as normal.

If Smurthwaite had carried out his threat of Admin or even just refused to cover the running costs of the club then we could have been in exactly the same position.

I can't help thinking how close we came to precipice and how fortunate we are that Carol and Kevin stepped in so quickly. They won't always get things right but i am sure they will strive bring our club to becoming a true community asset to the fans and to the people of Burslem and North Staffs.

Not long ago a lot of posters were saying the Bury model was one to follow. If a deal gets done involving a lot of debt write down it will increase borrowing costs for all lower league clubs.

That’s correct. One of the biggest threats to lower league football apparently is players wages. That coupled with unscrupulous owners.

i don’t understand how the EFL can let this happen.

Many admonish the EFL for taking a hardline stance after approving Dale’s takeover, but as his ownership began mid-season, he didn't have to pass the ‘fit and proper person’ test and now runs the club entirely on his own.

Is this for real? I wonder how many chairman have used this loophole, knowing full well that they would not pass the test.
