I'm more bothered about the financially illiterate Labour Party getting in.

If you want financial illiteracy, look no further than your darling Boris, promising millionaires tax cuts if he becomes PM. Given the massive underfunding of public services (I thought austerity was over?) it's the most illogical, frightening thing that could happen.

By some way the most successful politician in any party currently contending for high office. Winning the London mayoral elections twice shows he is a heavyweight and that is what is needed.

Do we want a Prime Minister who has spent his career surrounded by controversy? If Gove his now persona non grata because of his admitted drug use then Johnson should be as well having admitted to it at university. If we want to bring trust back into politics do we want a bloke at the top who has twice been sacked for dishonesty? Do we want a guy whose main achievement as Foreign Secretary was to lengthen the prison term of Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe in Iran?

Matthew Parris (a former Tory MP) wrote a scathing piece on Johnson in the Times a few days ago which is worth a read:

I'd like to have read the article but it's behind a paywall. Nevertheless I think I can guess its content.

Funny how most of us grew up in the same area and probably similar ages, yet all our views on the world are so different.

It would be boring if we were all the same, some think only of themselves others take a wider view of the world, with many variants in between. Things can only improve for some people if others are willing not to hold on to everything, and variants in between. Some witnessed the blitz others fortunately did not. Some sail through life, others have set backs, health problems and tragedies. Cannot say I have ever witnessed such a shambles in parliament, all parties.

Has he mentioned any benefits of Brexit apart from the will of the people yet.

I really struggle to see why anyone would rate Boris Johnson. Perhaps people who support him can tell us what good qualities Mr Johnson exhibits? Try as I might, I cannot find any. As for the other candidates, it really seems to be a case of who is likely to be the least worse rather than who is the best. On the other hand, compared to Jeremy Corbyn, they all look rather appealing. Shame that Ruth Davidson is not throwing her hat into the ring.
