Checkatrade boycott

Not here to provoke an argument for the inclusion of B Teams. Literally no one likes them. However...

They aren't going to go anyway. Lower league fans not attending Checkatrade games is NOWHERE NEAR as important to the EFL as the Prem clubs who demanded B Teams in the first place. They will always satisfy the Prem clubs over us.

As I've mentioned, Andy Holt of Accrington says that this is a vitally important revenue stream for lower clubs, and a good run in the competition (backed by good attendances) can boost a club's budget significantly, which seems to be a big gripe on here at the present.

Only presenting the counter point. I back anyone taking a moral standpoint against the competition, but if a good run it this meant a bigger budget in 2020/21 then I can put my moral issues aside. Added to that, its unlikelt to make a difference whether me and you go or not.

Also; its not food sales that would boost our budget.

You get cash for every win, and cash for progression. That's the money maker.

Finally, we're not as important as people think we are. If we'd not attended vs Stoke last year, no one would have noticed. No debate would have been provoked. Try to avoid hyperbolic condemnation of 'degrading themselves' when most people fancied going to a game of football without your simpering outrage (I boycotted last season, by the way).

I appreciate your point but they specifically said that one of the aims of the new format was to give these young players a taste of playing in front of a crowd.

Having no fans turn up is bad PR and it likely would put off some sponsors.

And I don't want the only reason Vale survives is because we've had to prostitute ourselves to the premier league for some spare change.

The game is supposed to be for the fans.

Stoke seem a bit peeved that they haven’t been invited back.

I suppose there was always a chance that a mid table Championship club might not get invited to make up the numbers if enough elite academies entered the competition in the first place.

Maybe they’ll qualify for the trophy in 20/21?

Agree with all of that, but unfortunately the game is run by the big clubs.

I don't like it, I don't agree with it, but boycotting games has had no affect in the last two years in which most club have posted record low attendances. As long as the big clubs want a plaground for their golden generations, it'll continue in the same format.

Sadly the higher level sponsorship at league and cup level is all attracted due to a small number of big clubs with international appeal. Without the trickle down money lower league clubs get they'd be insolvent. Either we take the scraps, demand a bigger share and the big clubs walk away or we walk away with nothing. Small clubs have been surviving on the scraps for years now.

For years clubs played reserve sides in early rounds and there is no market on TV for Vale reserves vs Rochdale reserves. There is an international audience for Chelsea under 23s vs Vale on a Tuesday night with no other live football.

You are too kind Santa. Bottom half championship club more accurate and reads far better:wink:

You just have to look at the EFL website, to see how this is going.

They are announcing Liverpool and Man Utd, like it's the first teams joining and the EFL teams should bow down in honor, at the opportunity of having either humbling themselves to visit their ground.

In the article, you get the cold hard truth from the EFL:

“The recent feedback received from Clubs and coaches has been very positive with the current format continuing to offer greater revenue for our Clubs and competitive first team football for young talent.”

As in: mo money, mo money, mo money. They would sell their mothers, for the right amount.
