The manager

Had me up until the working for Smurthwaite again part. Can't imagine any staff member hoping to even work for someone like that again. Askey was apparently keen to stay despite interest from other clubs before the takeover was confirmed so I'd be surprised if he doesn't sign now

No direct quotes attributed. It's from the Mirror though so they probably just hacked their phones.

Why is there a delay with the manager does he want the job or not if not let him go if yes sign him now and stop messing about everything as been going well and now this over the Manager.

David Flitcroft available.

Need to move quickly as he will soon be snapped up.

Move on if Askey not happy.

Need to sign players quickly before they go on holiday.

that would be a dreadful choice. Mansfield were glad to see the back of him, as were Swindon and Bury.

I think deep down its starting to annoy fans,i know he still has a contract until june the first but what is the delay,he wants stay, kevin and carol want him to stay,is it down to money? length of deal? who knows. What we do know is that we wont get any players signed up when in theory we haven't got a manager...…….frustrating

You never know. Even with Smurf at the helm those clubs would have bigger budgets under his ownership.

Smurf may have bled the club but the budget for next season looks little better.

Also, nice as the Shanahan’s are Compared to the abnoxious Smurfwaite, there is no increased playing budget being spoken of, just an idea of fewer, better players in a smaller squad.

Maybe Askey would rather we had a bigger playing budget?

I know we needed one and maybe he is pushing for that?

Are you having a laugh? Your first sentence is beyond belief.

The word from the club was same size budget as last year but spread across fewer players. Nobody said bigger, or for that matter smaller. Anyway, the club would be crazy to go spouting off if the budget had increased, equally the fans would be up in arms if the club stated that the budget were to be cut. The proof of the pudding is the players that come through the door and this season they’ll be signed by the manager not some deluded clown trying to unearth his next saleable asset.

Have a think about this. Which is less likely - that Askey will want to work for our former owner again or that any club in the football league will let our former owner anywhere near it?

Money talks and if a multi millionaire rolls up and talks a load of bull@hit he would be welcome if you were in administration.Cant believe the EFL would allow him to own another club after threatening to put our club into admin. But those horrible fans were demonstrating against him and not buying his pies.

Askey is probably holding out for a better offer from other clubs to strengthen his hand in negotiations.

The problem is until he signs we can’t sign players who will soon be going on their holidays and want a deal.

Baldrick Brown waited until the end of the transfer window and we ended up with the dross no one else wanted.

What is likely about the “budget comparable to last year statement??

1. It actually is, which was supposedly in the top ten in the League anyway.

2. It’s actually LESS than last year, but it’s being spun as comparable to avoid any negativity detrimental to season ticket sales / ability to attract players.

3. It’s actually MORE than last year, but we don’t want supporters getting over-inflated expectations or us being held to ransom by players/agents.

No, I don’t know either. But time will tell.

Remember hearing Ray Williams on the radio saying that Askey was going to be our permanent manager. Admittedly this was about a month ago but he said he knew him personally and had known him for a long time. He said Askey wanted the Vale job . Unless something new has arisen cant see why anything would change particularly now we appear to have sensible grown ups running the club.
